Forbes has released their list of The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women.

The filmmaker has teamed with Netflix for a series, titled Colin in Black & White, a six-episode biographical drama, which she’ll partly direct with Kaepernick as the narrator.
Colin in Black & White will focus on Kaepernick’s youth and subsequent rise to infamy as an NFL quarterback who was blacklisted for his social activism.

Earlier this year, DuVernay opened the “Amanda Theater,” named after her late aunt, Denise Amanda Sexton, at her ARRAY campus in Historic Filipinotown, L.A. The theater itself is also a work of art.

The series, which premieres in 2020, will chronicle the lives of one couple per season, with each episode spanning a single day. It’s DuVernay’s second series on OWN since the creation of “Queen Sugar.”

“Ms. DuVernay’s film attempts to portray me as an overzealous prosecutor and a bigot, the police as incompetent or worse, and the five suspects as innocent of all charges against them. None of this is true,” she wrote.

Blackk talked about the significance of the role he plays, what the first day was like on set, and why he urges everyone to take the time to watch this film.

“For some people this is all going to be new, like, ‘Wait, what?’ And for other people it’s deeply felt because they’ve experienced it in their lives as people of color or people who faced injustice.”

The new season, which launches Sunday, May 4, will include widely known films like “West Side Story,” ″Dog Day Afternoon” and “Gandhi” as well as films that may not be as familiar, like “Losing Ground.” The Associated Press got a front-row seat to the conversations between DuVernay and TCM host Ben Mankiewicz at the taping last month in Los Angeles.
