Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors on Thursday announced her resignation after her finances were called into question.
Cullors found herself at the center of controversy in April after the New York Post reported she’d purchased four homes for $3.2 million. The story prompted Hawk Newsome, the head of Black Lives Matter Greater New York City, to call for an “independent investigation” into where Cullors had gotten that kind of money.
Despite the scandal, the 37-year-old Cullors insists it has nothing to do with her decision to leave, saying her exit has been planned for more than a year and the “time is right” for her departure. “Those were right-wing attacks that tried to discredit my character,” she says. “And I don’t operate off of what the right thinks of me.”
Do you believe Cullors’ departure has nothing to do with the financial scandal?
