An Idaho Marshal’s deputy who mocked LeBron James’ comments on the fatal shooting of Ma’Kahia Bryant has been fired, according to Bellevue Mayor Ned Burns.
Deputy Nate Silvester had been on administrative leave since the incident, which began when James posted a photo of the Ohio police officer who shot Bryant with the caption, “You’re next.” Silvester responded, “So you don’t care if a Black person kills another Black person but you do care if a White cop kills a Black person even if he’s doing it to save the life of another Black person?”
Following the incident, the Bellevue Marshal’s Office suspended Silvester and released a statement that read, “The statements made do NOT represent the Bellevue Marshal’s Office. The Bellevue Marshal’s Office always demands that our Deputies engage with our citizens in a friendly and professional manner.”
Does Silvester’s comments reveal who he is as a person, or who he is as a cop? Should he have been fired for the post?
