(Washington, DC) — The first full day of summer brings with it a heat emergency for the District. The temperature in the region is expected to reach into the 90’s and with high humidity, the heat index will make it feel hotter than it is outdoors. The District has also announced it will open cooling centers across the city to help residents beat the heat. Residents are also being asked to check in on elderly neighbors to make sure they’re beating the heat with at least a fan circulating air in their homes. Health officials are also advising people to limit exposure to the sun and hard work during the midday hours when the sun is highest in the sky. Officials are also encouraging folks to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
