Former College Track Champ Dies at 26

Former NCAA track and field champion Cameron Burrell has died of undisclosed causes, his family announced on Tuesday. He was just 26 years old.
“My family is extremely saddened with the loss of our son, Cameron, last night,” says Leroy Burrell, who coached his son at the University of Houston. “We are going through profound sorrow and ask that all of our friends, extended University of Houston family and the track and field community in the U.S. and abroad allow us to gather with our closest family and friends.”
Burell, whose parents are both Olympic gold medal winners, was a member of Houston’s track and field team from 2013 through 2018, capturing an individual NCAA championship that was previously won by his dad 28 years earlier. He also helped score championship victory for the Cougars in his final season with the team. He’s survived by his parents and two brothers.
