Arrest Made In Murder Of Rideshare Driver

The victim was located outside in a roadway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit arrested a 17-year-old male from Washington, DC, in connection with the recent murder of 71-year-old Abdul Rauf Khan of Springfield, VA. The suspect is charged as an adult.

On February 26, 2022, at approximately 5:30 pm, patrol officers responded to the 3700 block of Dunlap Street for a welfare check. The victim was located outside in a roadway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He died several hours later at a hospital.


The preliminary investigation revealed Khan was operating as a rideshare driver at the time of the murder. His car was also stolen.

On March 1, 2022, officers conducted a traffic stop on the victim’s stolen vehicle at the intersection of Garrett A. Morgan Boulevard and Central Avenue in Landover. There were three occupants inside of the car at the time of the stop – two juveniles and one adult. They were all taken into custody.

The 17-year-old male charged with Khan’s murder confessed to shooting the victim during a carjacking. The preliminary investigation revealed Khan picked up the 17-year-old as a fare in Washington DC. Detectives continue to investigate whether he was alone with the victim at the time of the murder. He is charged with first degree murder and carjacking. He’s in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
