Assault Weapons Ban To Be Taken Up By House Panel Next Week

There used to be a federal assault weapons ban, but it expired nearly 20 years ago.

(Washington, DC) — A ban on certain kinds of assault weapons will be taken up by a House committee next week. The move follows recent mass shootings in places like Buffalo, New York, Uvalde, Texas, and Highland Park, Illinois. The Judiciary Committee is meeting to discuss the bill on Wednesday. New York Democrat Jerry Nadler leads the panel and said the one thing mass shootings have in common “is a high-powered assault weapon.” There used to be a federal assault weapons ban, but it expired nearly 20 years ago.
