MCPS Superintendent Says She’s Been Asked To Resign

(Rockville, MD) — The superintendent of the Montgomery County Public Schools says she’s been asked to resign. Superintendent Monifa McKnight says school board members asked her to step away from her position last week. McKnight said she was not given a reason and that the board has never shown any previous concern about her performance. She also said she plans to fight any attempt to oust her. The Montgomery County Education Association released a statement yesterday saying it has serious concerns about McKnight’s leadership based on her response to sexual harassment allegations against a district principal. The school board declined to comment last night, saying only that members were aware of McKnight’s statement.
