Washington, D. C. (Monday, March 18, 2024) – The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a $50,000 reward to help find and convict those responsible for an early morning shooting Sunday in the city’s Shaw neighborhood. Police say when the gunfire ended 7 people were shot, two fatally.
The shooting happened around 3:00 a.m. at 7th and P Streets, NW, near the Kennedy Recreation Center. Police have identified the names of the two 32-year-old men killed. They are Anthony Brown of Southeast and Jack Lucks of Baltimore. Five other victims are said to be hospitalized. Their conditions were not immediately known.
The violence happened the same weekend that police rolled out their drug-free zones in the city. No word on the motive in Sunday’s shooting. D.C.’s homicide rate for the year now stands at 30. That’s down from the 47 murders this time last year.
