(Washington, DC) — A recent spike of violence in DC is leaving several people dead. At least eight people have been killed in the District since Wednesday, including the shooting death of 11-year-old Karon Brown. At least eleven others have been wounded in shootings, but have survived. The latest incident happened Sunday evening in the 13-hundred block of Congress Street, southeast. A man was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital where he died. DC has had 94 homicides so far this year, compared with 85 last year. DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and DC Police Chief Peter Newsham are calling on the public to help law enforcement take illegal guns off the streets.
