Yahoo! News reports, Councilman Oliver Thomas is also ecstatic about Mackie’s investment. “Years ago, we talked about us being Hollywood South. I think maybe we’re finally in a position to make it happen and for New Orleans East to be the foundation for that to happen,” said Thomas.
Mackie’s sense of responsibility to his hometown came to a crux after 2008 hurricane devastated his hometown. In a 2011 interview with ‘The Guardian‘, Mackie stated, “Every time I go home now, I feel it with everybody who’s stayed and rebuilt, the magnitude of we did it. We did it on our own. We’re in a position where we can say we did it without your help…”
According to land records by New Orleans based news source WBRZ, the actor purchased 20 acres on the I-10 Service Road at Read Boulevard, close to the Little Woods neighborhood.
