Tesla Recalls 54,000 Cars that Refuse to Yield for Stop Signs

Tesla is recalling nearly 54,000 vehicles after a software update made them start ignoring stop signs.
Since the update, the vehicles — which include the Model S, X, 3 and Y — “perform more frequent speed lane changes, will not exit passing lanes and may perform rolling stops,” reads a statement released by Tesla. However, a rep for the company says the cars should stop if they detect other vehicles or pedestrians in the intersection.
Any of the aforementioned models that have received an update to firmware 2020.40.10 are affected by the recall, according to Tesla. The good news is owners don’t have to bring their vehicles in to be repaired; Tesla can do it remotely.
Is it only a matter of time before Teslas become self-aware, like the machines in “The Terminator?”
