2-Year-Old Injured in Quadruple SE Shooting. Two Adults Killed

Washington, D. C. (Thursday, July 18, 2024) – A two-year-old girl is recovering from gunshot wounds in a shooting that left two adults dead and another adult injured. D.C. police say the violence happened Thursday morning as multiple gunmen opened fire at 22nd and Savannah Street, SE.

Police Chief Pamela Smith told reporters the search for three shooters, armed with rifles, is ongoing. Police are looking for a blue Dodge Charger with heavily tinted windows. Police believe the shooters got out of one car and hopped into the other.

The little girl who was injured was rushed to a local hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. Chief Smith said the shooting happened as a group of day-care children were being taken out of the facility for their morning walk. The two-year-old was the only child physically hurt. “This is another example of gun violence that we cannot have in our communities. We’re sick and tired of this. We want to say to our community, we are working hard every single day to ensure that this kind of violence is decreased in our communities.”

Police have not yet released the names of the two men who were killed or the other injured male. No word on a motive.
