(Washington, DC) — As the investigation into the pedestrian bridge collapse in D.C. last month continues, officials are revealing a startling find in the debris from the accident. The D.C. Department of Energy and Environment reports that crews working at the site discovered dozens of military-grade medical stretchers stacked in the foundation of the bridge. Boxes of the stretchers, dated 1954, were shipped to the D.C. Office of Civil Defense with the intent to be stored at the Davis Elementary School in Southeast D.C. Officials say there’s no immediate word on how the stretchers destined for the elementary school made their way into the foundation of the bridge.
