DC Hoping for Return of Big Crowds for July 4th

Fireworks will return to the National Mall for Fourth of July.

Washington, DC (Tuesday, June 15, 2021) – The District of Columbia is gearing up for 4th of July festivities.  Mayor Muriel Bowser is calling on Americans to celebrate the holiday in DC proclaiming the city is fully open.

“DC is open and ready to welcome back visitors to celebrate the way we came together as a city and as a nation this year. We have shown once again that when we come together, there is nothing we can’t do,” said Mayor Bowser.

President Biden has announced he will host essential workers and military families on the South Lawn to celebrate the Fourth of July. In a statement released this morning, Bowser said the District will support the White House in hosting the traditional Fourth of July fireworks celebration on the National Mall.


In addition to the celebrations hosted by Biden, DC will also celebrate the return of the Barracks Row and Palisades 4th of July Parades.

“We thank President Biden and his team for acting with urgency to get the vaccine to the American people so that we could save lives, get our country open, and celebrate together once again,” added Bowser.
