(Washington, DC) — The DC Council is saying the DC Streetcar is no longer coming to Georgetown. The plans were dismissed after the Department of Transportation claims there is no feasible path to complete the project in the short-term due to challenges with funding and maintenance. DDOT still wants to extend the service to Anacostia and along Benning Road to the Benning Road Metro Station. The project is going to cost 241-million dollars and includes improvements to roadway and bridges, in addition to new streetcar vehicles. The DC Streetcar is currently free and will remain as such until the completion of the Benning Road expansion in 2026.
