Predatory debt collection continues to be an issue for those struggle with bills. New figures show every day, low-income families are hit with harassing phone calls, threatening letters, and even lawsuits—many of them unjust, abusive, and sometimes flat-out illegal. Advocates say the human cost is enormous, from wrecked credit to lost jobs and even housing instability. There is help for those in harm’s way of illegal debt collectors.  There’s also a new report showing how healthcare debt is driving some families even deeper into financial trouble.
