We’re asking a question many parents are struggling with this summer: how much screen time is too much for our young people? There are the smartphones, tablets, gaming systems and laptops. All of them have become a constant part of daily life. But research shows excessive screen time may affect everything from sleep and eyesight to attention spans and childhood development. Some experts even warn that these devices can become habit-forming. So how do parents set healthy limits, especially when school is out and children have more free time? We’ll talk with a pediatrician about practical strategies for reducing screen time and with a local author who says one of the best alternatives is rediscovering the joy of reading a book.
