Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.’s Convention Is Moving Out Of Florida

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. , has decided to move their event out of Florida due to Governor Ron DeSantis’ “harmful, racist, and insensitive policies against the Black community.”

The decision to move to a different city came shortly after the state changed its academic standards for teaching Black history. The fraternity is refusing to direct nearly $5 million to a state that is hostile toward Black communities.

First Coast News reached out to Gov. DeSantis’ office for comment and his press secretary responded in short, “this is a stunt.” Alpha Phi Alpha is keeping the location of their 2025 convention location is unknown as of now.

“He continuously does things that pretty much insults us as an African American community and we have to show that we’re not here for it and it’s definitely a mockery,” said Leofric Thomas Jr., Alpha Phi Alpha member of The Delta Beta Chapter.

Alpha Phi Alpha will not conduct business in Florida unless DeSantis changes his policies.
