After reporting the death of nine due to listeria linked to Boar’s Head Deli meat, the company has announced the indefinite closure of the plant tied to the outbreak.
The Boar’s Head plant in Jarratt, Virginia, at the center of a deadly listeria outbreak in the U.S., is closing down following nine deaths and 57 hospitalizations linked to its products.
The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 400 Union announced the plant’s indefinite closure, expressing support for affected workers. The union negotiated agreements with the company to provide workers with transfer opportunities or generous severance packages.
The recall over listeria concerns initially announced on July 26 has since been expanded to include an additional 7 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products.
