Howard University Welcomes Newest Class of Medical Students

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sunday, July 21, 2019) – On Friday, July 19, the Howard University College of Medicine welcomed its newest class of medical students with the traditional white coat ceremony.  The students took their Hippocratic Oath, stating the obligations and proper ethical conduct of doctors.

The Howard University College of Medicine enrolls more than 300 African American students, more than double the number of Black students at the leading predominantly White medical school.

Howard University is America’s No. 1 institution for producing Black applicants to U.S. medical schools, according to data from the Association of American Medical Colleges.  Friday’s ceremony was held in the Howard University Cramton Auditorium.
