The 2023 NBA All-Star Game made history on Sunday, but not the kind of history the league was hoping for.
Sunday’s contest set a record for the least-watched NBA All-Star Game ever, drawing just 4.59 million viewers between viewers of TBS and TNT.
That’s barely more than half the viewership for the Daytona 500, which aired the same day to an audience of more than 8 million.
Boston Celtics Jayson Tatum took home the Most Valuable Player award. Many would say the low ratings are due to the absence of Warriors Guard Steph Curry who missed the game entirely, and Lakers Forward LeBron James and Bucks Forward Giannis Antetokounmpo exited early.
According to reports ,” Ratings declined 29% and viewership 27% from last year’s All-Star Game (3.1, 6.28M).” It contines to mention,” While All-Star Game viewership has been trending down, this year’s declines are the steepest for the game since 2000 — the first All-Star Game after a one-year hiatus due to the 1998-99 NBA lockout.”
