April is known for Easter bunnies and the beginning of Spring, but for pranksters, it’s the best time of the year.

April Fools is celebrated on the first every year. Some speculate that “the holiday began in 1582 when France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, which indicated the beginning of the new year as April 1st. Those who failed to recognize the first of the year began in January where called “April fools,” reports History.com. The holiday also has ties to ancient Rome and the first day of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere.

Since then, the holiday has become the official day for shenanigans and buffoonery.
