Washington, D.C. (Friday, May 3, 2024) – D.C. police are investigating a shooting outside Dunbar High School on New Jersey Avenue, NW. Police say a stray bullet entered the school building through a window injuring a 17-year-old female student who was grazed in the head. The student is said to have non-life threatening injuries.
Dunbar was placed on lockdown. But police say there is NO active threat to the school. The suspects remains at-large. Police say the shooting happened around 9:30am with a car traveling the wrong way down the street opening fire on someone on the street and those persons or person returned fire. “During that event, there was an exchange of gunfire. There were several rounds that did go through the glass at Dunbar,” said Assistant Police Chief Leslie Parsons.
Police say the girl who was shot was taken to a local hospital with her family by her side and is expected to physically recover. Police are asking anyone with information or video of the shooting to call them at 202-727-9099. DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and Police Chief Pamela Smith also rushed to the scene of this latest shooting to rock a city community.
