The Kitchen and Cafe will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily starting today.

The current partial government shutdown is now the longest shutdown in US history and there appears to be no end in sight. As thousands of federal employees worry about finding a way to support their families and where their next meal will come from, D.C. entrepreneur and Chef Jose Andres announced he will open a pop-up kitchen to feed government workers.

“We believe that no person should have to go through the pain of knowing when to feed their children,” said Andres on Twitter Monday.

World Central Kitchen will set up shop at 701 Pennsylvania Ave. for hungry federal workers and their families.

In the past, Andres fed victims of Hurricane Maria in his native home of Puerto Rico.

The Kitchen and Cafe will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily starting today.
