Potential Mary J. Blige And Whitney Houston Duet Was Turned Down By Clive Davis

A 2019 interview with Mary J. Blige’s former manager Kirk Burrowes has resurfaced and it reveals that one of Mary’s hits was supposed to feature Whitney Houston.

“I wanted Mary to do a duet with Whitney [Houston],” Burrowes said. Burrowes was trying to leverage the relationship he had with Clive Davis by getting the two powerhouses on a track.

“He had Whitney and Aretha Franklin, but what Clive did was cut the baby in half. So he set it up for me and Mary to do the Whitney duet on Divas Live, so I could get the Whitney duet that I wanted.”

During the 1999 Divas Live, Mary and Whitney paid tribute to the “Queen of Soul,” by performing her song, “Ain’t No Way.”
