Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and army officials are going to consider the request.

(Washington, DC)  —  The U.S. Capitol Police Force is asking for a 60-day extension of some of the 52-hundred National Guard members currently serving in DC.  It comes in response to recent security threats on the building and the January 6th riot.  Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and army officials are going to consider the request.  The National Guard troops still in the district are staffing a security perimeter around the Capitol.  Their current deployment is set to end March 12th.
