(Columbia, MD) — An investigation is underway to determine what caused the gas explosion that destroyed parts of a business complex in Columbia. The explosion happened in the 88-hundred block of Stanford Boulevard Sunday morning. Howard County Executive Calvin Ball said it was so powerful it could be heard in communities many miles away. No one was injured in the explosion as none of the businesses were open and the area was evacuated before the explosion. BGE crews completed safety inspections of area gas mains and surrounding buildings and have yet to find any issues with gas equipment. Fire officials say the building is at risk of collapsing.
