DC Deputy Mayor on Leave After Alleged Assault

Geldart is accused of grabbing a man by the throat during a dispute.

Christopher Geldart, DC’s Deputy Mayor for Public Safety has taken personal leave after being accused of assault. Alexandria Police say the incident happened in the parking lot of Gold’s Gym in Alexandria Saturday afternoon. The door of Geldart’s vehicle hit another car.  Geldart and the owner of the vehicle got into a dispute that escalated.  Geldart is accused of grabbing the man by the throat.  In a statement released today, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser said any accusations are taken seriously and the matter is under review.
