DOJ Hits Apple With Antitrust Lawsuit

Washington, D.C. (Thursday, March 21, 2024) – The U. S. Justice Department has slapped Apple with a sweeping antitrust lawsuit. The the legal action accuses the tech giant of engineering an illegal monopoly on smartphones that hinders competitors and chokes out innovation.

The lawsuit was filed in federal court in New Jersey and in 16 other states by state attorneys general. The suit alleges Apple has monopoly power in the smartphone market and uses its control over the iPhone to “engage in a broad, sustained, and illegal course of conduct.”

For its part, Apple called the lawsuit “wrong on the facts and the law,” adding it will “vigorously defend against it.”
