House Oversight Committee Holds Hearing On DC Statehood

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said District residents are “still not free” as they remain disenfranchised by Congress.

(Washington, DC) — Democrats are pushing for Washington, D.C. to be the 51st state. In a House hearing, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said District residents are “still not free” as they remain disenfranchised by Congress. Bowser added that DC statehood is the “glaring” civil rights and voting rights issue of our time. House Oversight Chair Carolyn Maloney said adding D.C. as a state should not be about politics, but instead about equality and democracy. Ranking Republican member James Comer of Kentucky said D.C. statehood is a key part of the radical, leftist agenda to reshape America, adding that it is “flatly unconstitutional.”
