Memphis Officers Charged In Tyre Nichols’ Death

The Memphis police chief pleaded for calm before the expected release of body-cam footage showing Nichols’ arrest.

(Memphis, TN) — The five former Memphis police officers involved in the violent arrest of Tyre Nichols are facing murder charges. Nichols, a Black man, died in the hospital days after a January 7th traffic stop involving the police officers, who are also Black. Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy called the event a tragedy. He said the officers are behind bars and face second-degree murder and other charges. Mulroy said the body-cam footage of the arrest will be released Friday night.
