New Metro Faregates Not Perfect

(Washington, DC) — New taller and stronger faregates are now in place at the Fort Totten Metro station. This is the first of ten stations that’ll have them installed by the fall as Metro tries to recover some of the 40-million-bucks it loses every year to folks who don’t pay to ride. Questions are already being raised about their effectiveness though after several videos posted on social media showed fare evaders having little problem conquering the new barriers. Metro GM Randy Clarke says fare evasion is not okay and ultimately puts the cost of the crime on the backs of people who do pay to ride.
