“Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker,” which also stars Blair Underwood, Tiffany Haddish, Bill Bellamy and Carmen Ejogo, tells the story of America’s first female millionaire, who was also black, at the turn of the 20th century.

Ellen DeGeneres will be honored with the Carol Burnett Award, a counterpart to the DeMille Award that focuses on life achievement in television. The talk-show and game-show host is a multiple Emmy winner and Globe nominee.

The group’s past honorees have included Kerry Washington and Ellen Pompeo.

The Oscar-winning actress is the only reason to see “Ma,” and she’s clearly having a grand old campy time playing Sue Ann, an unstable middle-aged woman who clearly hasn’t, um, graduated from decades of resentment toward the cool-kid bullies who mistreated her in high school. To be fair, she has a right to be angry. Like, really angry.
