Beyoncé Becomes First Black Woman To Win Best Country Album At 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards

Sunday, Beyoncé made history at the 67th Grammy Awards by becoming the first Black woman to win Best Country Album for Cowboy Carter.

Taylor Swift announced Beyoncé as the winner, and she expressed disbelief and gratitude, saying, “Wow, I really was not expecting this.” Beyoncé acknowledged the industry’s gatekeepers, stating, “I think sometimes genre is a code word to keep us in our place as artists.”

Also, she won Best Country Duo/Group Performance for “II Most Wanted” featuring Miley Cyrus earlier in the night.

She became the second Black woman to win Album of the Year at the Grammys, Lauryn Hill was the first to win in 1999.
