Tennis Star Coco Gauff Tests Positive for COVID

American tennis great Coco Gauff will not participate in the Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for Covid-19.

(Sunday, July 18, 2021) – The coronavirus will sideline American tennis star Cori “Coco” Gauff.  She announced on Twitter today that she has tested positive for Covid-19.

“It has always been a dream of mine to represent the USA at the Olympics, and I hope there will be many more chances for me to make this come true in the future.  I want to wish TEAM USA best of luck and a safe games for every Olympian and the entire Olympic family,” said Gauff in a tweet.

The 17-year-old is ranked the 25th woman in the world.  The Tokyo 2020 Olympics starts Friday.  There have already been 55 confirmed cases now linked to the Games.
