According to DoSomething.Org, 1 in 3 young people will be in an abusive or unhealthy relationship. Particularly, women between the ages of 16 and 24 are roughly 3 times more likely than the rest of the population to be abused by an intimate partner. Here is a list of 10 signs that a teen you know may be in an abusive relationship.
10 Signs That A Teen You Know Is In An Abusive Relationship (according to FamilyDoctor.Org):
- Their partner is extremely jealous
- Their partner is highly critical, dishes our constant put downs
- Their partner makes all of the decisions
- They no longer spends time with friends and family
- They have unexplained marks and bruises
- They’re overly anxious, grades have dropped
- They’ve lost interest in activities they once enjoyed
- They worry about partner’s reaction to a situation
- They blame themselves for how their partner acts
- They constantly check in and urgently return texts
If you’ve identified any of these signs in someone else, please listen calmly without judgment, remain patient as they may struggle to completely sever ties with their partner. Whether this applies to someone else or yourself, create a plan of action once you’ve identified the relationship as unsafe.
