Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser is pushing for statehood. A hearing on a bill to make Washington the 51st state is scheduled for Thursday. Bowser led a rally down Pennsylvania Avenue early in the week, demanding voting rights for the city’s 700-thousand residents. The mayor organized the event to raise awareness about the hearing on HR 51 in the House this week. The bill has more than 200 co-sponsors, and support from Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer. But are the chances better now than ever? We take a look at the issues and the challenges.
