Mayor Muriel Bowser attended a D.C. Public Charter School meeting where she announced she will be sending her daughter, Miranda, to their local elementary school, according to the Washington Post.

Their assigned school is Shepherd Elementary School in Ward 4 D.C.

Mayor Bowser adopted Miranda in September 2018 and she is almost the preschoole age for D.C, three-years-old.

Bowser would be the first elected mayor to send their child to their neighborhood school. Although most of the elected officials did not have school-aged children, she would be on of the few to attend the assigned school.

“I would rather not spend an hour commuting,” Bowser said. “I want her to have friends in the neighborhood; I want her to be close to home, and if that school is right for her, that is probably where she is going.”
