(Washington, DC) — The White House will not assert executive privilege to prevent Trump-era documents from being acquired by the House committee investigating the January 6th Capitol attack. Press Secretary Jen Psaki called the Capitol assault a unique attack on the foundations of American democracy. She also called it a “dark day” for democracy. The White House sent a letter to the National Archives, clearing a path for release of the Trump documents. White House counsel Dana Remus wrote, “These are unique and extraordinary circumstances.” Lawyers for former President Trump are expected pursue legal challenges to block release of the documents.
