George Floyd’s Daughter Working On His Biopic

George Floyd’s daughter is helping bring his life story to the big screen.

According to Variety, Floyd’s daughter, Gianna Floyd, and her mother, Roxie Washington, are working as executive producers on an upcoming film called “Daddy Saved the World.”

On May 25, 2020, George Floyd was killed by Officer Derek Chauvin, as he forced him to the ground and kneeled on his neck for nine minutes.

Screenwriter Gregory R. Anderson is writing the script but a director has yet to be selected. It’s been authorized not to depict Floyd as a perfect person, the press release for the film described it as a “gritty drama of a man and his community thrust into the fiery light of history.”

“We are excited the world will see the real, jovial, and loving George we know. This film will humanize him, embody the essence of his life, and hopefully reignite efforts to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. It’s time for justice and equality for all,” said Washington.

Alfonso Ribeiro Says ‘Fresh Prince’ Role Ruined His Career

Alfonso Ribeiro is getting honest about that iconic role he played.

The actor who starred as Carlton Banks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air says that the role came at a price. “Playing Carlton on Fresh Prince became a sacrifice. I used to always say doing Carlton was the greatest and worst thing that ever happened to me,” Ribeiro recently said.

Although Ribero was able to host shows like Dancing With The Stars, America’s Funniest Video, and co-starring in In The House with LL Cool J and Debbie Allen, he feels the role in the iconic sitcom took a toll on his future in acting.

“It was one of the greatest roles that I ever was fortunate enough to play, but it was also the role that stopped me from acting again because people couldn’t see me as anything else. The sacrifice was not having an acting career anymore,” he added.

Beloved actor and comedian Sinbad, known for his clean comedy, is recovering from a stroke he believes manifested due to a joke he made over 14 years ago.

During a recent appearance at the Netflix Is A Joke comedy festival, he warned about the power of words and how they can manifest into reality.

Sinbad, joined by his family, expressed gratitude for being able to walk again after the stroke affected his left side. Despite the challenges, he remains positive and appreciative of the support he has received.

Kamala Harris Sets Internet On Fire For Telling AAPI Crowd: “Sometimes…You Need To Kick That F**king Door Down”

Vice President Kamala Harris sparked controversy and praise for her colorful advice to Asian Americans, urging them to “kick that f**king door down” when faced with obstacles.

Her remarks at the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies event received cheers and online support, with some criticizing her language.

Harris, known for her straightforward approach, continues to inspire and mobilize communities as she and President Biden gear up for reelection.

Despite the conservative backlash, Harris’s message resonated with many, highlighting her determination and resilience in breaking barriers.

This comes shortly after Harris prepares for this summer’s invite to the vice presidential debate hosted by CBS. However, the Trump campaign has not responded to the invitation, no surprise since Trump has yet to choose a vice presidential running mate.

The move comes just one day after Trump and President Biden agreed to a pair of debates, July 27th on CNN and Sept. 10th on ABC

Is The Kendrick Lamar & Drake Battle Done? Who Won?: “I Would Rather See Them Come Together”

During a recent interview on the 7PM In Brooklyn podcast with Camelo Anthony and Mero, Common shared his opinion of the Kendrick Lamar and Drake rap battle.

Common said, “For me, I wasn’t like, ‘This was too far.’ I was like, ‘Damn, this is really incredible battle.'”

He continued, “This battle, to me, was a heavyweight. They was going back and forth…I respected what each one delivered.”

While Layzie Bone of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony shared he isn’t a fan of the beef during an interview on The Maikon Show podcast.

Layzie said, “I totally don’t like [Kendrick and Drake beefing] because I’m a fan of both of theirs. I love Drake. I really, really admire Drake. I think his wordplay is immaculate.”

He continued, “The music he put out is dope. I love Kendrick Lamar. Really love Kendrick Lamar. I would rather see them come together as a force as opposed to tearing down.”

He added, “I know a lot of people say [Hip Hop] was built on beef and all that – yeah, cool fine and dandy but I saw what that did to N.W.A. I’m cut from that cloth. I was fortunate enough to be a kid on the block living that life, that story they was telling. Having that be my favorite group and then that time they spent beefing and wasting.”

Layzie Bone continued, “But I don’t feel like… Maybe I’m older. But it’s not a place that I wanna be in because if you really gon’ beef, I think you should try boxing or MMA or something like that. Really get it in and then go have a beer about it.”

WHUR & FEDEX HOST MOMS WHO SERVE LUNCHEON

Mother's Day Luncheon

Washington, D.C. (Friday, May 10, 2024) – Just in time for Mother’s Day, WHUR and FedEX teamed up to host a special luncheon for “Moms Who Serve.” These are military, firefighters, police officers, and healthcare mothers. The luncheon was held Wednesday at Toya’s Creole Lounge in Silver Spring, Maryland.

It’s no secret that being a mom is by far one of the most challenging and yet rewarding jobs. Add to those motherly duties, a demanding career in the armed forces, law enforcement, healthcare, or fire & EMS; and you have a true definition of a “Super Mom.” These ladies go beyond the call of duty to “protect and serve our community/country” while also championing motherhood and looking fabulous while doing it.

The WHUR & FedEX luncheon was complete with great food, music, cards, flowers, cake, and lots of giveaways. Additionally, the ladies received valuable mental health information about how to manage stress, balance family and career, and how and were to reach out if they need help.

Now in its 12th year, the “Moms Who Serve Luncheon” is an opportunity for 60 moms to set aside the kids and job for a few hours and just focus on themselves. Here’s a recap of what the ladies experienced and what a few of them had to say about the luncheon.

Candidate’s Corner: Maryland U.S. Senate Race

WHUR News reached out to the campaign office of Republican U.S. Senate Candidate Larry Hogan several times. They did not respond to our requests for an interview. We will continue to request an interview leading up to the general election.
