WASHINGTON (AP) — A man who claimed to have a bomb in a pickup truck near the Capitol has surrendered to law enforcement after an hourslong standoff that prompted a massive police response and the evacuations of government buildings and businesses in the area. Police don’t immediately know whether there were explosives in the vehicle. Authorities were searching the truck in an effort to understand what led the man, identified by law enforcement officials as 49-year-old Floyd Ray Roseberry of North Carolina, to drive onto the sidewalk outside the Library of Congress and make bomb threats to officers.

Selling Tampa star Sharelle Rosado and ex NFL player Chad Johnson are expecting a baby.
This will be Rosado’s fourth child. It will be Chad Johnson’s eighth child.
Together, this will be the pair’s first child.
She talks about filming for her show and people pregnant and said, “It was shocking. I think I was crying and laughing at the same time. I just can’t wait. It’s actually going by so fast. I found out I was pregnant while we were filming, so time is flying. It doesn’t even seem like it’s been that long.”
She adds that she always wanted a big family.

Did Feds Target BLM Protesters?

A new report is claiming that former President Trump’s Justice Department intentionally targeted Black Lives Matter protesters with prosecutions to disrupt the movement.
The Movement for Black Lives released the report today explaining it was conducted in partnership with the Creating Law Enforcement Accountability & Responsibility Clinic at the City University of New York School of Law.
The groups found that “much of the drive to use federal charges against protesters stemmed from top-down directives” from Trump and former Attorney General William Barr.
The study also claims, “These directives, meant to disrupt the movement, were the primary reason for the unprecedented federalization of protest-related prosecutions seen in 2020.”

Trey Songz and Letoya Luckett linked up with their kids in tow at a botanical garden while in New York City on Wednesday afternoon (August 18).

Trey and his son, Noah, were joined by Caro Colon who is Noah’s mother. Letoya had her two children, Gianna, 2, and Tysun Walker. Noah, 2 was seen dancing with Gianna while Caro joined them for the dance-off. Trey was seen holding Letoya’s son, Tysun.

“Linked up with my bro @treysongz. Beautiful day in NYC,” Letoya captioned the video.

Both celebrities are co-parenting, Letoya recently announced her divorce from Tommicus Walker via social media saying they have decided to divorce after two years of marriage but will continue to “be loving co-parents and keep a peaceful environment out of respect for our children.”

DC Boy Stabbed to Death After School. 16-Year-old Arrested

16-year-old arrested in the fatal stabbing of a 15-year-old fellow student at KIPP DC College Preparatory in NE.

Washington, D.C. –  (Wednesday, 18, 2021) – On what was just the third day of school, turned tragic today at KIPP DC College Preparatory.  A 15-year-old boy was stabbed to death at a bus stop just outside the school.

D.C. police have not released the youth’s name.  But Police Chief Robert Contee says the violence erupted right in front of the school with administrators and officers nearby.  Another student, a 16-year-old boy has been taken into custody.  His identity is not yet known nor the charges he may face.

A letter from the principal says KIPP DC College Preparatory will be closed tomorrow and school counselors will be made available for students who may need help.

Facebook Deletes Hateful Lizzo Comments

Facebook is stepping up in support of Lizzo.
The social media platform has begun to remove hate speech and trolls from the platform that were derogatory towards Lizzo.
Over the weekend, Lizzo was in tears on Instagram after she was the subject of hate speech following the release of her song “Rumors” featuring Cardi B.
Facebook will continue to monitor and remove any hateful comments about the singer.

The new show titled, Drawn to Life, was supposed to open in 2020 but is now set to open on November 18.

NEW YORK (AP) — A prosecutor has introduced a jury to the sex abuse claims against R&B star R. Kelly, saying the criminal trial was “about a predator” who used his fame to manipulate children and women. Assistant U.S. Attorney Maria Cruz Melendez delivered the opening Wednesday at the long-anticipated federal trial arising from years of allegations that he sexually abused women and girls. It came more than a decade after Kelly was acquitted in a 2008 child pornography case in Chicago. That acquittal was a reprieve that allowed his music career to continue until the #MeToo era caught up with him, emboldening alleged victims to come forward. The 54-year-old Kelly denies the charges.

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. health officials have announced plans to dispense COVID-19 booster shots to all Americans to shore up their protection amid the surging delta variant and evidence that the vaccines’ effectiveness is falling. The plan, as outlined by the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other top health authorities, calls for booster doses eight months after people get their second shot of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. The booster doses could begin the week of Sept. 20.

Keyshia Cole Honors Her Mom Frankie Lons With A Final Farewell

Keyshia Cole bid a final farewell to her mother, Frankie Lons, who died in mid-July after losing her fight with addiction.

Cole took to social media to share footage from Lons’ funeral as well as giving fans a look at the funeral program. “We will miss you, I tried to spend as much time close to her as I could, in that church. When we got to the mausoleum, I asked if I could see her one last time,” Cole captioned her post.

According to TMZ, Frankie suffered an overdose a day after celebrating her 61st birthday.

The death toll in Haiti is nearing 2000 with nearly 7,000 injured as a result of a devastating earthquake this past Saturday morning.  The U.S. is assessing earthquake damage there and sending a joint taskforce to support humanitarian efforts. This is a horrible replay of what we saw on the island nation 11 years ago when an earthquake struck in 2010.  We take a look at what’s happening on the ground right now, how weather, politics and other factors are complicating getting aid to Haiti.

United Airlines: ‘Please Don’t Duct Tape The Passengers’

(Chicago, IL) — United Airlines is reminding employees to refrain from using duct tape to restrain unruly passengers. Senior Vice President for Inflight Services John Slater recently issued a staff memo urging flight attendants to use “alternative measures” to deescalate situations, adding that “tape should never be used.” Slater was referring to at least three incidents involving duct tape used on passengers on American Airlines and Frontier flights. Attendants were also directed to use the safety manual to guide decision-making if they feel a customer should be denied service. The memo came soon after American flight attendants restrained a woman with tape after she tried to open the plane’s doors during a flight.

WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. health experts are expected to recommend COVID-19 vaccine boosters for all Americans, regardless of age, eight months after they received their second dose of the shot. The goal is to ensure lasting protection against the coronavirus as the delta variant spreads across the country. That’s according to two people familiar with the matter who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations. An announcement was expected as soon as this week, with doses beginning to be administered widely once the Food and Drug Administration formally approves the vaccines. U.S. health officials recommended boosters last week for some with weakened immune systems.

Frozen Shrimp Recalled Due To Salmonella Concerns

The FDA is recalling more than two dozen frozen shrimp products over salmonella concerns.
The recall affects packages of frozen shrimp manufactured by India-based Avanti Frozen Foods and sold under multiple brand names including Big River, Ahold, Censea, Nature’s Promise, Harbor Banks, Meijer, 365, and several others.
The FDA says nine cases of salmonella have been linked to the shrimp. A full list of recalled products can be found at fda.gov/safety.

Naomi Osaka Pauses News Conference In Tears After Reporter’s Question

Naomi Osaka briefly paused a news conference and left the podium in tears after a question about her relationship with the media.
A Cincinnati reporter asked the 23-year-old tennis star “You’re not crazy about dealing with us, especially in this format. Yet you have a lot of outside interests that are served by having a media platform. How do you balance the two?”
Osaka said she was “not really sure how to balance the two. Like I’m figuring it out at the same time as you are”.
After the question, Osaka began to tear up and left the podium for a few minutes before returning to finish the news conference. Osaka’s agent later called the reporter a “bully”.
Osaka made headlines earlier this year when she withdrew from the French Open after announcing she would not be speaking with the press.
Was the reporter’s question out of line? Should athletes be forced to answer questions from the media?

New York (AP) — Vaccine mandates are expanding in New York. The state ordered hospital and nursing home workers Monday to get COVID-19 inoculations. And New York City is poised to start requiring them Tuesday for anyone in restaurant dining rooms, gyms, museums and many other leisure venues. The new policies aim to goad people into getting vaccinated. Like the rest of the U.S., New York is confronting a coronavirus wave powered by the highly infectious delta variant of the virus.

Haiti’s troubled history may slow aid to earthquake victims

Humanitarian aid is flowing into Haiti following Saturday’s 7.2-magnitude earthquake there and a death toll that has reached 1,297. However, the Caribbean nation’s political unrest, as well as an approaching tropical storm, is complicating efforts. Nonprofit groups and philanthropy experts say the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moise, as well as accusations that some money raised following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti never reached those in need, will make fundraising for the nation even tougher. Aid to Haiti has been under a microscope since 2015 when an investigation from ProPublica and NPR questioned where $500 million raised by the American Red Cross was spent.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden is expected to address the nation on the U.S. evacuation from Afghanistan. Biden’s remarks Monday come after the planned withdrawal of American forces turned deadly at Kabul’s airport as thousands tried to flee Afghanistan after the Taliban’s takeover of the country. Biden traveled back to Washington from the Camp David presidential retreat to speak to the nation. It will be his first public remarks on the Afghanistan situation in nearly a week. Senior U.S. military officials say the chaos at the airport left seven people dead Monday, including some who fell from a departing American military transport jet.

Church of MLK’s 1st Leadership Position Gets Museum Funding

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Work has begun to make a museum out of the crumbling Alabama church where the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was elected to his first leadership position in the civil rights movement. King was 26 when he was chosen to lead the Montgomery Improvement Association in 1955, on the first day of the Montgomery Bus Boycott. The National Parks Service approved a $500,000 renovation grant in 2018 for what is now an annex to the Mt. Zion AME Church. But Central Alabama Community Foundation President Charles “C.P.” Everett tells the Montgomery Advertiser that grant money was slowed by a series of problems, including the coronavirus pandemic.

Ray Charles To Join Country Music Hall of Fame

NASHVILLE, Ten.. (AP) — R&B legend Ray Charles and Grammy-winning duo The Judds will be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame on Monday announced their new members, who will be formally inducted in a ceremony in 2022.
Charles showed the commercial potential of country music when he released “Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music” in 1962, a genre-defying personal project to the Georgia-born singer and piano player. Charles’ versions of country classics became one of the best selling country albums of the era.
Naomi Judd and her daughter, Wynonna, were the most successful duo in country music in the 1980s, with more than a dozen No. 1 hits, including “Mama, He’s Crazy,” “Love Can Build a Bridge” and “Rockin’ With the Rhythm of the Rain.”
Other inductions include Eddie Bayers, a drummer in Nashville for decades who worked on 300 platinum records and is a member of the Grand Ole Opry band. Bayers is the first drummer to be inducted in the Country Music Hall of Fame.
And pedal steel guitar player Pete Drake, a member of Nashville’s A-team of skilled session musicians, played on hits like “Stand By Your Man” by Tammy Wynette and “He Stopped Loving Her Today” by George Jones. Drake, who died in 1988, is the first pedal steel guitar player to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

All DC Healthcare Professionals Must Get Vaccinated

DC is moving to make sure more workers across the city are vaccinated against the coronavirus, announcing today the guidelines for healthcare workers to take the shot by September 30th.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser and DC Health announced that by September 30, 2021 all health care workers in the District of Columbia must receive at least the first dose of Pfizer or Moderna or one dose of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. 

This requirement applies to:

  • All licensed, certified and registered health professionals;
  • All EMS providers such as paramedics and emergency medical technicians (EMTs); and
  • All unlicensed healthcare workers (i.e. patient care technicians, personal care aides, environmental services staff).

“As we continue to see a rise in the numbers of positive cases among unvaccinated persons across the city, it is necessary that we ensure all health care workers in the District are vaccinated to decrease the spread of COVID-19,” said Dr. LaQuandra Nesbitt, Director of DC Health. “This new mandate can reduce the likelihood of a COVID-19 outbreak in healthcare settings and among vulnerable populations.”

Two doses of the Pfizer vaccine or the Moderna vaccine, or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, are required:

(a) before the date of submission of an application for licensure, certification, or registration;

(b) on the date of submission of an application for renewal of licensure, registration, or certification; 

(c) before beginning employment or a contractual relationship if not required to have a license, certification, or registration; or 

(d) on or before a date specified by the Department of Health in written or electronic correspondence to the person.  

Health care professionals may be exempt due to religious beliefs or medical conditions.

Why Haiti Is Prone To Devastating Earthquakes

Earthquakes have been wreaking havoc in Haiti since at least the 18th century, when the city of Port-au-Prince was destroyed twice in 19 years. Saturday’s powerful quake killed hundreds and injured thousands more. Eleven years earlier a temblor killed tens of thousands of people, if not hundreds of thousands. Haiti sits near the intersection of two tectonic plates that make up the Earth’s crust. Earthquakes can occur when those plates move against each other and create friction. Haiti is also densely populated. Plus, many of its buildings are designed to withstand hurricanes — not earthquakes. Those buildings can survive strong winds but are vulnerable to collapse when the ground shakes.

Search For Survivors Continues After Haiti Earthquake

LES CAYES, Haiti (AP) — Haitians are searching for survivors and the dead in collapsed buildings following a powerful earthquake over the weekend as hospitals overflow with patients. Thousands more in the quake zone are sleeping outside, clutching small transistor radios tuned to the news. Officials have raised the death toll from Saturday’s earthquake to at least 1,297. And the devastation could soon worsen. Tropical Depression Grace is predicted to reach Haiti on Monday night, bringing the potential for heavy rain, flooding and landslides. The country’s Civil Protection Agency says the magnitude 7.2 earthquake also left at least 5,700 people injured.

Joshua Rogers and C. Ashley Brown-Lawrence Survived COVID-19

Gospel artists Joshua Rogers and C. Ashley Brown-Lawrence both contracted COVID-19 and recovered.  Mrs. Brown-Lawrence contracted it twice.  Joshua Rogers said that COVID-19 is something no one wants to experience.  They both urged using all safety precautions and vaccinations.

Earthquake Hits Haiti Killing Hundreds

304 people are reported dead and a desperate search is underway in Haiti for more victims following a massive earthquake this morning.

(Saturday, August 14, 2021) – Over 300 people are reported dead and the death toll is expected to climb even higher following a massive 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Haiti Saturday morning.  The U.S. Geological Survey predicts the death toll could reach into the thousands, raising fears that the disaster could be similar to the quake that struck Haiti back in 2010.

More than 1,800 people are also injured.  Prime Minister Ariel Henry says the country is in urgent need of medical supplies.  President Biden has authorized immediate assistance.  The epicenter of the earthquake was about 7.5 miles northeast of Saint-Louis-du-Sud and 10 kilometers deep.

On January 12, 2010, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake devastated Haiti leaving as many at 300,000 dead and more than 1.5 million displaced.

A state of emergency has been declared in Haiti for the next month as officials asses the damage and as crews search for victims and survivors.

Concert Promoter AEG Presents to Require Proof of Vaccination

One of the country’s biggest concert promoters has announced it will require proof of vaccination from all concertgoers and staff members.
The requirement will affect shows at dozens of venues and music festivals run by AEG Presents, the company reveals in a statement issued Thursday. Among AEG’s iconic properties are Webster Hall in New York, The Roxy and El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, the Coachella Music and Arts Festival, and The Theatre at Resorts World in Las Vegas.
“Just a few weeks ago, we were optimistic about where our business, and country, were heading,” says COO Jay Marciano. “The Delta variant, combined with vaccine hesitancy, is pushing us in the wrong direction again.”

Aretha Franklin’s granddaughter, Grace Franklin, showed off her singing skills by covering one of her grandma’s songs.
During the ‘Respect’ premiere, Grace Franklin and Jennifer Hudson teamed up to sing a duet of ‘Ain’t No Way’.
Jennifer shared the clip on her IG page with the caption, “Grace Franklin sings ‘Ain’t No Way’ at ‘Respect’ premiere.”
Grace had some words at the Premiere before her amazing performance.
She said, “I’m so happy to see my grandmother honored in such an amazing way. ‘Ain’t No Way’ is my favorite song from my grandma, so I hope y’all enjoy it!”

Kanye West Has A New Release Date for ‘Donda’?

Kanye West has had two listening sessions for his new album ‘Donda’, but he has yet to keep his word on the release date.
Now Apple Music is claiming that ‘Donda’ will be available on their platform on August 15, but media outlets are claiming that Kanye will drop the project on August 22.
Juicy J has commented on the delay in the release by commenting, “I made a bet it would be pushed back & won $15k.”
Kanye West might even drop the project and change it every week as a new way to put out an ever-changing album. Fans will have to wait and see.

Da Brat and Jesseca Dupart Share How They Changed Each Other

Da Brat and her girlfriend, Jesseca Dupart, are showcasing their love for each other in a new reality show called ‘Brat Loves Judy” on WeTv.
Da Brat said that Jesseca had a huge impact on her coming out.
She said, “I’ve been private my whole life. I felt like as an artist back in the day it wasn’t safe to come out and tell people that you were into the same sex and I definitely was protecting all of my assets because, like I said, Ellen lost everything and it just wasn’t cool, so I decided to keep my life private because that was all I knew, but when I met Jesseca, Judy, I met someone who was living out loud, who was very happy and transparent about her life and career and it just encouraged me to not give a f*** about what people had to say about what I felt. Because I should be the most important person in my life. I should make myself happy before I made anyone else happy and that’s what she’s taught me.”
Jesseca said, “I fell in love with how loving she is. On the outside, she has a really really hard exterior but she is the most considerate, most thoughtful, most caring person that you will ever meet. We will be out somewhere and she will ask everybody, ‘Are you okay? Are you alright? Do you need anything?’ and you wouldn’t expect that from somebody of her caliber, you would think probably that people cater to her. She is the opposite of that. I fell in love with the loving part of her.”

Sanaa Lathan Said She Almost Quit Auditioning For ‘Love and Basketball’

Sanaa Lathan recently revealed that she almost quit acting because of the auditioning process of her classic film ‘Love and Basketball’.
She said, “I really learned a big life lesson when I was actually auditioning for ‘Love and Basketball’. It was a situation where Gina [Prince-Bythewood], the director, did not want an actress who could play basketball. She wanted a basketball player who could act the role. And I soon found out and soon realized that she really wasn’t wanting to hire me.”
Sanaa said that she constantly heard whispers from everywhere during that time to ‘quit’.
She said, “Several people in my life, including some of my representation, said, ‘Just drop out.'”
Sanaa claimed that it was one person who changed her outlook on the audition process.
She said, “It was really hard to keep kind of investing and trying to prove myself and keep kind of being shot down. And I was on the verge of dropping out of the audition process. And I had a mentor, a female mentor, a Black woman who really helped me back then with my kind of transition as an actress into the business. And she said to me, she was like, ‘do you love acting?’ and I said, ‘Yes.’ And she’s like, ‘Are you having fun learning basketball?’ And I thought about it and was like, ‘Yeah.’ She was like, ‘Are you getting a good workout when you’re playing basketball.’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ She was like, ‘Then just do it for that.’ Stop worrying about getting the job. Get into your joy. As soon as I switched to that energy and started having fun in the process, I got the job.”

By now you’ve heard that Barack Obama’s 60th birthday party was attended by many high-profile celebrities. One of the celebs who attended the party is apologizing for being a “terrible guest.”

Erykah Badu tweeted her apology to the former president and first lady writing, “Mr and Mrs Obama, please forgive me for being the “terrible guest “ at such a sacred event for your family. I was so inconsiderate, thank you for all your love. What an example of ‘how not ‘ to be, erica.”

The apology received mixed reactions online, with some feeling there was no need for an apology others felt the veteran singer should know that recording such a sacred event is off-limits.

Others praised the “Call Tyrone” singer for having integrity. “Good for you Erykah you have integrity. You are woman enough to apologize. The people saying don’t apologize don’t understand integrity,” tweeted @ReneeRevelation.

Study: Video Games Can Be Good For Mental Health

A new study says playing video games can offer a boost to mental health – especially for older adults.
Researchers at the University of Utah have begun using video games to help treat depression among people over the age of 60.
The games are specially designed to be “interesting and palatable to older adults”. They say patients can begin to think and act differently after about two weeks.
In some cases, the games proved more effective than antidepressants.

Meek Mill: First Rapper To Receive Mandela Humanitarian Award

Meek Mill shared a prestigious award with fans on Thursday (August 12). Meek is the only rapper to be awarded the Nelson Mandela Humanitarian Award.

Meek took to Instagram to show off the new hardware placed on his mantel. “Blessings..,” he wrote as the caption. “I got the ‘Nelson Mandela humanitarian award’ Thankyou Rip to the great Nelson Mandela. ‘I ain’t grow up playing ball I had a smith & western* because where I’m from it’s very hard to turn 27’ #survivors.”

The “Dreams and Nightmares” rapper received several congratulatory messages from famous friends such as Slim Thug, DC Young Fly, Miami Heat’s P.J. Tucker, record executive Steven Victor, and former NBA champion Stephen Jackson.

Meek has been an advocate for prison reform since getting released from prison in 2018. He teamed up with JAY-Z and sports mogul, Michael Rubin to establish the REFORM Alliance to advocate for change in the probation and parole systems.

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam issued a universal mask mandate for K-12 schools on Thursday.  The move comes after a handful of school districts in recent days decided to buck the governor’s interpretation of a state law and opt not to require face coverings.  Tension over the issue has exploded at numerous school board meetings in Virginia recently.

America’s white population shrank to a key mark for the first time in U.S. history. The latest U.S. Census Bureau numbers shows American growth is being driven by minorities and the white population now stands at 58-percent, the first time that they have fallen under the 60 percent mark since the Census was first conducted. The 2010 Census showed whites made up about 63-percent of the population. Since 2010, the Asian population grew by 35-percent, the Hispanic population rose by 23-percent, and the Black population grew five-point-six percent.

In Beyoncé’s recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the 39-year-old talks about her decision to make videos like, “If I Were A Boy,” “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” in black and white instead of color.

“I remember being in a meeting discussing analytics, and I was told the research discovered that my fans did not like when my photography was black-and-white,” said Beyoncé.

“They told me I wouldn’t sell if it wasn’t in color. That was ridiculous. It pissed me off that an agency could dictate what my fans wanted based on a survey. Who did they ask? How is it possible to generalize people this much? Are these studies accurate? Are they fair? Are all the people I’m trying to uplift and shine a light on included? They’re not.” she continued.

By defying her team and committing to her gut instinct, Beyoncé’s album, “I Am…Sasha Fierce” became her biggest commercial success to date.

Denzel Directs Michael B. Jordan In Romantic Drama

Denzel Washington is directing his protégé, Michael B. Jordan in the romantic drama, “A Journal For Jordan.”

The film is based on First Sergeant Charles Monroe King, played by Jordan, and the letters he wrote to his newborn son while overseas.

King was killed in Iraq when his son was seven months old. His wife, Canedy, played by Chanté Adams, keeps all the letters in a book.

“A Journal For Jordan,” is written by Virgil Williams, who also wrote the Grammy-nominated 2017 movie, Mudbound.

Washington directs and produces “A Journal For Jordan” alongside Jordan.
