The initiative is the GU272 Descendants Association, which represents the descendants of 272 slaves sold by the Jesuit owners of Georgetown University in 1838.
The U.S.-based branch of the Jesuits has unveiled ambitious plans for a “truth and reconciliation” initiative in partnership with descendants of slaves once owned by the Roman Catholic religious order. The Jesuits pledge to raise $100 million within five years from their existing fundraising network. The broader goal is to raise $1 billion from an array of donors in pursuit of racial justice and racial healing. The Jesuits’ partner in the initiative is an association representing the descendants of 272 enslaved men, women and children sold by the Jesuit owners of Georgetown University to plantation owners in Louisiana in 1838.

(AP) — The San Francisco 49ers have locked up their biggest potential free agent for the long term by agreeing to give star left tackle Trent Williams the richest contract ever for an offensive lineman. Williams’ agents at Elite Loyalty Sports say the deal will pay Williams $138.1 million over the next six years, surpassing the $138 million deal David Bakhtiari got from Green Bay during last season.
Williams also will get the biggest signing bonus ever for an offensive lineman at $30.1 million, as well as $55.1 million guaranteed. Williams sat out the entire 2019 season in Washington over a dispute with the front office before reviving his career in San Francisco, earning his eighth Pro Bowl selection.
ATLANTA (AP) — Authorities say a 21-year-old man has been captured hours after eight people were killed in shootings at three Atlanta-area massage parlors. Cherokee County sheriff’s Capt. Jay Baker said Robert Aaron Long of Woodstock, Georgia, was taken into custody in Crisp County on Tuesday night.

Crisp County is about 150 miles south of Atlanta. Four people were killed at a massage parlor in Woodstock. Shortly after, three people were killed at a spa in northeast Atlanta, while a fourth person was killed at another spa across the street. Four of the eight killed are of Asian descent.

Keyshawn Johnson is mourning the death of his daughter.
The former NFL star made the announcement on social media today saying, “It is with incredible sadness that I have to share the news about the passing of my beautiful Daughter Maia. She came into our lives just as we were both coming of age as adults and has been a constant beloved presence for both of us. We are heartbroken and devastated by her loss.”
No cause of death was given.
Keyshawn was just 22 when his daughter was born.

A person with direct knowledge of the move tells The Associated Press that Washington has agreed to sign veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. The contract cannot become official until the new league year starts Wednesday. The 38-year-old gives Washington more experience at football’s most important position after it released Alex Smith. The team now has Fitzpatrick, journeyman-turned-playoff standout Taylor Heinicke and Kyle Allen under contract at quarterback.
Washington also has the 19th pick in the draft and could use one of its first few selections on a QB of the future. Fitzpatrick would be in the mix for the present on what’s expected to be a one-year deal. He played in nine games last season for Miami, throwing for 2,091 yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Drake was in a celebratory mood after his EP “Scary Hours 2” helped him snag the one, two, and three chart positions on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The “What’s Next” rapper took to his Instagram Stories to share his celebration which included a cake with the chart imprinted on top of it.
He also showed off who was there to help him celebrate and Bow Wow made an appearance. In the clip, Drake raps a few lines from his 2001 hit, “Thank You” addressing Bow Wow.

(Washington, DC) — Despite Mayor Bowser lifting some restrictions for outdoor gatherings, the Smithsonian Museums are taking a wait and see stance. The Smithsonian Institute’s Public Affairs office says no decision has been made on when to reopen any of its museums and that when a decision is made, it will likely feature a phased-in approach similar to last year. The museums have been closed since the pandemic started, but in September four of its museums temporarily reopened to patrons for the first time since the pandemic started.

During an interview with Access Hollywood, Mrs. Obama was asked her thoughts on the Duke and Duchesses interview.
“My hope is that, when I think about what they’re going through, I think about the importance of family and I just pray that there is forgiveness and there is clarity and love and resolve at some point in time,” said Obama, 57, “Because there’s nothing more important than family.”

ABC Entertainment and Warner Horizon say Chris Harrison will not be hosting the upcoming season of “The Bachelorette.” A statement says he will be replaced by former “Bachelorette” contestants Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe. In February, Harrison stepped down from hosting duties for “The Bachelor” following racially insensitive comments connected to an interview with “Extra.” Harrison had defended “Bachelor” contestant Rachael Kirkconnell in the interview after past photos of her resurfaced in which she is dressed in costume as a Native American and at an antebellum plantation themed ball. Harrison later apologized. ABC and Warner Horizon say they are continuing “dialogue around achieving greater equity and inclusion within ‘The Bachelor’ franchise.”

Four female acts won the top four prizes Sunday, including Swift, who became the first female performer to win album of the year three times, while Beyoncé — with her 28th win — became the most decorated woman in Grammy history. H.E.R. won song of the year, Billie Eilish picked up record of the year and Megan Thee Stallion was named best new artist. Sunday marked the first time four separate and solo women won the top four honors.
Move aside, Selling Sunset. The creators of the hit real estate show are creating another real estate series for Netflix.
Adam DiVello is working on a show based on African American agents in Tampa, Florida.
The series will focus on Allure Realty’s staff, which is known for selling luxury waterfront real estate in the area.
Netflix released a statement about the series and said, “These shows follow a person or group of people going about their real, everyday lives. They can offer a fun, light-hearted escape, or inspire a juicy, heated debate. They can provide a glimpse into a world different from our own, or even show a new side of our own circles.”
The official release date has not been announced.

(Washington, DC) — Two men are under arrest in connection with an assault on a U.S. Capitol Police officer who later died. Julian Khater and George Tanios are accused of spraying a chemical on Officer Brian Sicknick and two other officers during the storming of the U.S. Capitol. Federal prosecutors have not said if the chemical caused Sicknick to later collapse and die. Sources tell The Washington Post it’s been determined Sicknick was not beaten during the riot. Toxicology and autopsy reports have not been made public.
(Washington, DC) — Some outdoor gathering requirements are being loosened in Washington, DC. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced today 50 people can gather together outside starting next Monday. They’ll still have to be safely distanced. Indoor dining restrictions will also be loosened to 25-percent and sports teams can re-apply to play and host fans. The District will reassess indoor and outdoor capacity limits in April.

If your food in the fridge hits the expiration date, is it time to throw the items away? Not necessarily.
There are still some ways to enjoy the food. Delish says the best thing to do is to determine whether the date on the package is the expiration date. It could be a sell-by-date.
They add that if an expiration date has passed and it’s only been a day or so, you can probably eat the food. But they warn to eat it quickly.

The chain has announced that it will introduce dollar Spicy Tacos and dollar Primo Burritos in select markets.
Spicy Tacos will come with your choice of a spicy sauce like mild jalapeño, medium chipotle, and white hot ranch.
Taco Bell is also testing out Stacked Bowls, a Grilled Cheese Stacker, and a Chicken Enchilada Grilled Cheese Burrito.

After Kirk Franklin’s son, Kerrion Franklin, posted audio of their heated fight on social media, the clip went viral.
Since the incident, Kirk has responded and apologized. He said that the relationship between him and his son has been rocky for some time. “Many of you know I have an older son named Kerrion Franklin. In May, he’ll be 33. For many years, we’ve had a toxic relationship with him as a family. We tried for many years through counseling, through therapy, to try and rectify this private family matter.”
Kirk also said, “Recently, my son and I had an argument that he chose to record. I felt extremely disrespected in that conversation, and I lost my temper. I said words that were not appropriate, and I am sincerely sorry to all of you. I sincerely apologize.”
Twitter had lots to say about the leaked footage too. There were tweets like, “If yall are shocked by Kirk Franklin, you didn’t grow up in church lol. Saved people cuss too. A lot lmao” and “Until you’ve had an emotionally abusive parent you wouldn’t even begin to understand Kirk franklin’s son, and why he felt he had to record it. No one may have ever believed him.”

We are a year into the pandemic, and although there is no end in sight, couples are still moving forward with their wedding plans.
NBC News interviewed multiple couples, and they still plan on having wedding celebrations.
One couple interviewed said, “Who knows what’s going to happen tomorrow … It’s very important. A lot more important [that we get married] in the last year since we’ve lost so many people.”
Because of this, many venues are putting different rules into place.
They include requiring groups to be smaller, asking guests to get COVID tests before the ceremony, or having guests show their vaccine cards.

CHICAGO (AP) — Almost as soon as Meghan and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey aired, many were quick to deny the allegations of racism that Meghan says drove her to thoughts of suicide. As many Black women watched those social media conversations turn to questioning over whether racism affected treatment of Meghan by the British press and royal family, the headlines and discussions became painfully familiar. Many Black women say it was hard to watch Meghan’s anguished recollections of racism invalidated by the royal family, members of the media and the public, offering up yet another example of a Black woman’s experience being disregarded and denied.
Washington, D.C. — The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) announced today finalists for the 34th annual NAB Crystal Radio Awards. Since 1987, the NAB Crystal Radio Awards have recognized radio stations for their year-round commitment to community service. The finalists will be celebrated and the winners announced during a special awards program held Tuesday, April 13 and available exclusively on NAB Amplify.
NAB will also present Howard University’s WHUR-FM Washington, D.C. with the esteemed Crystal Heritage Award during the special event. The Heritage Award recognizes radio stations that have won a total of five Crystal Radio Awards for exceptional year-round community service efforts. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate has confirmed Ohio Rep. Marcia Fudge to head the Department of Housing and Urban Development and North Carolina regulator Michael Regan to lead the Environmental Protection Agency. Fudge, who has represented parts of Cleveland and Akron in the House since 2008, will lead the housing agency just as Congress passes new benefits for renters and homeowners who have suffered economic losses amid the coronavirus pandemic. Regan, who has served as North Carolina’s top environmental regulator since 2017, will help lead President Joe Biden’s efforts to address climate change and advocate for environmental justice, two of the administration’s top priorities.
In case you missed it Michael Jackson’s daughter, Paris released her debut album last November and the critics are calling it “fantastic.”
“Wilted” is being called “indie-pop” and was composed with the help of Manchester Orchestra’s Andy Hull and Robert McDowell.
“It’s my experience with love and betrayal and heartbreak. And, in that sense, it is autobiographical,” Paris told Variety.
Paris has said she doesn’t want to get caught up in just one sound and wants to “expand and try everything.” Although Paris calls the album “alternative funk” the music is more Coldplay than Thriller.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Congress has sent President Joe Biden the landmark $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill. The House approved the bill Wednesday over solid Republican opposition in a vote that gives the new president and Democrats a victory just seven weeks after he took office. Biden tweeted that “help is here” and said he would sign the bill on Friday. The 628-page measure represents Democrats’ effort to bridle the catastrophic pandemic and revive the enfeebled economy. Republicans say the measure is bloated, crammed with liberal policies and heedless of signs the dual crises are easing. The Senate passed the measure over unanimous Republican opposition four days ago.
“I didn’t grow up knowing much about the royal family,” Markle said. “It wasn’t something that was part of conversation at home. It wasn’t something we followed.”
Though she said she had never romanticized royal life, the duchess also acknowledged that her only impression of the lifestyle was one she assumes she shares with many other Americans: “It’s what you read in fairy tales.”

District officials are hoping new registration process will ultimately mean more shots in arms. Mayor Bowser is calling on residents to help each other.

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, Mayor Bowser is calling on Washingtonians to help get all eligible individuals pre-registered for a vaccination appointment. The pre-registration system can now be accessed through vaccinate.dc.gov as well as the District’s call center. Eligible individuals are encouraged to visit the website or call the call center throughout the day to pre-register. With the new pre-registration system, there is no need to scramble to be online or to call at a specific time. At this time, the order in which individuals register will not affect the order in which they are selected; a person who registered today at 8:30 a.m. will be in the same position as a person who registers at 6:30 p.m.
As of noon on Wednesday, March 10, 48,513 individuals had already pre-registered for a vaccination appointment.
The website and phone number that residents and workers use to pre-register are the same as what individuals have already been using to book appointments:
This week, DC Health is only asking eligible residents and workers to register. Eligible individuals who should pre-register include: DC residents 65 and older; DC residents 18-64 with a qualifying medical condition; and members of an eligible workforce. Learn more about who is eligible at coronavirus.dc.gov/vaccine.
The pre-registration questionnaire now includes a question about an individual’s vaccine preference. The responses to this question will be provided to the District’s vaccination program team as part of data collection. An individual’s response will not impact whether or when they are selected for a vaccination appointment. At the time of booking, individuals will continue to see which vaccine is available at each available appointment. DC Health continues to urge Washingtonians to take the first vaccine available to them.
Just for this week, the first set of invitations to book an appointment will go out the morning of Friday, March 12. Individuals will have 48 hours to book an appointment once the calls, texts, and/or emails go out. If necessary to fill appointments, additional invitations will go out on Monday, March 15.
After the initial launch, the cadence for sending out appointment invitations will be:
And, only if any appointments still need to be filled, Tuesdays by 10:00 a.m.
Eligible individuals who register by 11:59 p.m. the night before invitations go out will be part of the randomized selection process.
Eligible individuals will be selected through a process that randomizes those who have registered, according to the following breakdown:
20% go to DC residents in priority zip codes who are 65 and older
20% go to DC residents in any zip code who are 65 and older
20% go to DC residents in priority zip codes who are 18-64 with a qualifying medical condition
20% go to DC residents in any zip code who 18-64 with a qualifying medical condition
10% go to DC residents in priority zip codes who are members of an eligible workforce who are 18 and older
10% go to members of an eligible workforce who are 18 and older, regardless of home address
Based on the most recent data, this week, there is a slight adjustment to priority zip codes – zip code 20001 is no longer considered a priority zip, and 20003 is being added as a priority zip code. The current list of priority zip codes includes: 20422, 20011, 20017, 20018, 20002, 20003, 20019, 20020, 20032, 20593. As a reminder, priority zip codes are determined by identifying areas where residents have been disproportionately burdened by COVID-19 and areas that are lagging in COVID-19 vaccination coverage.
This new pre-registration system will reduce the stress involved with making a vaccination appointment and to make it easier for the community to work together to get all eligible residents registered. Mayor Bowser’s three operating principles for the new registration system are: 1) an equitable distribution of the vaccine; 2) a consistent scheduling cadence so residents know what to expect; and 3) a shared responsibility, across our community, to get people pre-registered.
Mayor Bowser’s charge to the community is to help get all eligible residents pre-registered in the days to come. Please reach out to eligible individuals, especially seniors, and talk to them about their plans to pre-register and get vaccinated.
Qualifying medical conditions include: Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and other Chronic Lung Disease; Bone Marrow and Solid Organ Transplantation; Cancer; Cerebrovascular Disease; Chronic Kidney Disease; Congenital Heart Disease; Diabetes Mellitus; Heart Conditions, such as Heart Failure, Coronary Artery Disease, or Cardiomyopathies; HIV; Hypertension; Immunocompromised State; Inherited Metabolic Disorders; Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities; Liver Disease; Neurologic Conditions; Obesity, BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2; Pregnancy; Severe Genetic Disorders; Sickle Cell Disease; and Thalassemia. Residents who are unsure whether they qualify for the vaccine based on a qualifying medical condition should contact their health care provider.
At this time, individuals 18 years old and older should pre-register through vaccinate.dc.gov or the District’s call center. District residents who are 16 or 17 years of age and have a qualifying medical condition and are not an existing patient of Children’s National Hospital or HSC, can pre-register for a vaccination at Children’s National Hospital by following the link posted oncoronavirus.dc.gov/vaccine.
As of this week, the following populations are now eligible for the vaccine in Washington, DC: individuals who work in health care settings; members of the Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department; residents of long-term and intermediate care facilities and residents of community residential facilities/group homes; DC residents who are 65 years old and older; individuals experiencing homelessness; members of the Metropolitan Police Department; Continuity of District Government personnel; Department of Corrections employees and residents; teachers and staff who are, or will be, working in person at a traditional or public charter school; child care workers and teachers and staff at independent schools in DC; individuals who work in a grocery store setting; outreach workers in health, human, and social services; individuals who work in manufacturing; individuals who work in food packaging; DC residents 16-64 years old with qualifying medical conditions.
This week, DC is receiving 24,760 doses of vaccine – 14,680 doses for appointments previously made through vaccinate.dc.gov; 7,210 doses for hospitals and health centers; and 2,870 doses for special initiatives.
