Illinois City First To Offer Black Residents Reparations

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Evanston, Illinois, is using tax money from the sale of recreational marijuana to become the first U.S. city to make reparations available to its Black residents for past discrimination and the lingering effects of slavery. The Chicago suburb’s City Council voted 8-1 Monday to distribute $400,000 — largely from a 3% tax the sale of marijuana — to eligible Black households. Each qualifying household would receive $25,000 for home repairs or down payments on property. Qualifying residents must either have lived in or been a direct descendant of a Black person who lived in Evanston between 1919 to 1969 and who suffered discrimination in housing because of city ordinances, policies or practices.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The jury seated for former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin’s trial in George Floyd’s death includes a chemist, a nurse, a social worker and a grandmother. It’s a racially mixed group – with six people who identify as Black or multiracial. Almost all have seen the bystander video of Floyd pinned on the street that fanned worldwide outrage. And some have ties to police. Although many said they had formed views of Chauvin’s conduct, all said they could set those aside and decide the case based on evidence. Opening statements are Monday in Minneapolis.

According to analysis from Samba TV which tracks 13.5 million Smart TV households, their numbers fall in line with about 1.7 million people tuning in to the premiere.
A number that’s ahead of the 1.6 million people who watched WandaVision, but still short of the 1.8 million that sat for four hours to watch the Snyder Cut of Justice League on HBO Max.

Rachel Dolezal is back in a documentary that explores Black beauty called, “Subjects of Desire.”
Since her admittance of being a white woman who identified as Black back in 2015, Rachel Dolezal has been a controversial figure.
“I didn’t just be that white ally and do a little bit, I canceled my white privilege. I canceled my hair,” Dolezal told The Daily Beast.
Other participants in the documentary include Miss Black America winners Ryann Richardson and Brittany Lee Lewis, as well as Grammy-winning singer India.Arie.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — An autopsy report says that Bobby Brown Jr., the son of singer Bobby Brown, died from the combined effects of alcohol, cocaine and the opioid fentanyl. The 28-year-old Brown Jr. was found dead in his Los Angeles home in November. The report says Brown Jr.’s girlfriend found him unresponsive on his bedroom floor and called paramedics, who declared him dead. At the time authorities said only that they believed no foul play was involved. The report says Brown Jr. had a history of drug and alcohol use and his death was ruled an accident. Bobbi Kristina Brown, the elder Brown’s daughter with the late Whitney Houston, died in 2015 at age 22. Houston died in 2012 at 48.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Mike Tyson says he’s producing a limited series about his life and career. Jamie Foxx will play the boxing great in the project that also counts Foxx and filmmaker Martin Scorsese as producers. The announcement comes less than a month after Hulu said it had ordered a miniseries about Tyson, a project that the boxer slammed as “cultural misappropriation.” In a statement, Tyson says he’s been looking to tell his story for some time and wants the series to be inspiring and entertaining. Monday’s announcement of the Tyson miniseries didn’t include when it will be released and the outlet it will be shown on.
Colorado Supermarket Mass Shooting
Video posted on YouTube showed one person on the floor inside the store and two more outside on the ground, but the extent of their injuries wasn’t clear.
At least 10 people are reported killed including a police officer at a Boulder, Colorado supermarket after a man with a rifle opened fire there Monday afternoon.. Law enforcement vehicles and officers surrounded the building and told someone inside to surrender. A man who had just left the store, Dean Schiller, said he heard gunshots and saw three people lying face down, two in the parking lot and one near the doorway. He said he “couldn’t tell if they were breathing.” Video posted on YouTube showed one person on the floor inside the store and two more outside on the ground, but the extent of their injuries wasn’t clear. What sounds like two gunshots are also heard at the beginning of the video. One person has been taken into police custody.

Ranking Republican member James Comer of Kentucky said D.C. statehood is a key part of the radical, leftist agenda to reshape America, adding that it is “flatly unconstitutional.”

Samaria Rice is the mother of 12 year old Tamir Rice who was shot and killed by police officers in Cleveland when they thought the toy gun in his hand was a real gun.
Samaria took issue with Tamika participating in Lil Baby’s performance at the Grammys.
She felt the performance was attention seeking.
Tamika has responded saying, she wants me to not speak of her child. I will be very very careful going forward to ensure that I respect her wishes.

Judge Limits Evidence, Refuses To Move Trial In Floyd death

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A judge says he won’t delay or move the trial of a former Minneapolis police officer charged in George Floyd’s death, but he’ll allow limited evidence from a 2019 arrest. Attorneys also seated a 13th juror on Friday, leaving one more needed for trial. Jury selection was halfway complete last week in former officer Derek Chauvin’s trial when the Minneapolis City Council announced it had unanimously approved a $27 million settlement with Floyd’s family. Chauvin’s attorney, Eric Nelson, called the timing of the announcement deeply disturbing and said it jeopardized Chauvin’s chance for a fair trial. Hennepin County Judge Peter Cahill called the timing “unfortunate” but on Friday declined to delay the trial.

Maryland Lawmakers Approve $577M to Settle HBCU Lawsuit
Gov. Larry Hogan vetoed a similar bill last year after citing economic difficulties created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — The Maryland General Assembly has passed a measure to set aside $577 million over 10 years to settle a federal lawsuit that alleged discrimination and underfunding at the state’s four historically Black colleges and universities. The House of Delegates gave the bill final approval Wednesday on a 120-14 vote. The measure now goes to Gov. Larry Hogan, who vetoed a similar bill last year after citing economic difficulties created by the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s measure would not begin payments until fiscal year 2023 in an adjustment to account for the pandemic. Most of the measure’s provisions are contingent on a final settlement agreement being reached by the parties by June 1.
Georgia Spa Shooting Update
Spa Shooting Suspect Frequented At Least Two Of Spas He Allegedly Attacked
(Atlanta, GA) — Atlanta Police are confirming the suspect in this week’s shooting spree at three spas had been a customer at their two locations. Deputy Chief Charles Hampton Junior confirmed suspect Robert Aaron Long purchased the gun he allegedly used in the attack on the day of the shootings. Hampton said they are not able to identify the four victims killed in their city because they have not been able to notify next of kin. He said they had hoped to release the names today, but are not yet done confirming identities and letting their families know. He said that process is complicated because some of the women killed were from foreign countries. Long is accused of killing eight people at three locations on Tuesday.
Nicki Minaj has been added to the list of stars that aren’t as punctual as they should be, this was confirmed by Loni Love during a recent appearance on the Daily Pop.
Love confirmed Tiffany Haddish’s Clubhouse conversation about Minaj who said, “Nicki is never on time” after she was being compared to the rapper. “Unlike Nicki, I treat people with respect and dignity,” said Haddish.
Love doubled-down recalling Nicki’s appearance on The Real saying Nicki was an hour late and demanded Popeye’s chicken before she interviewed with Loni.
Loni even had to accompany an intern to get the chicken for Nicki and her team, “after I waited an hour, Nicki came and [she] killed it so it was worth the wait,” said Loni. “Then when I went back to the dressing room, all the chicken was there. Vanessa Bryant made 12 posts to her Instagram page detailing her lawsuit against the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies that shared photos from the helicopter crash site where her husband, Kobe, and daughter Gianna died.
Despite being assured by Sheriff Alex Villanueva, an investigation found that one deputy took between 25 and 100 photos on his cell phone and shared them with others in the department as well as complete strangers at a bar.
A bar patron heard about the pictures from a bartender and emailed a complaint to the Sheriff’s department.
Bryant released the names within her posts, Joey Cruz, Rafael Mejia, Michael Russell, and Raul Versales were the deputies that shared the photos. Vanessa won her lawsuit to have the names released earlier this month.

In order to get the tests, you just have to be one of 500 people to find a Tinder match so that you can safely meet your date in person.
When Tinder made the announcement, they said that 40% of its users haven’t met up with anyone else from the match since October of last year.
The tests will be given out on a first come first serve basis with the first at-home tests shipping out on March 22.

The venue will seat 7,000 Esports fans and will be located on the grounds of Exhibition Place in Toronto.
OverActive Media will shell out $400 million of their own money for the building.

Bryson Tiller has accomplished a lot in five short years, from his 2015 debut album, “Trapsoul,” to being Grammy-nominated for his hit song “Exchange” it’s a wonder why Bryson would want to change careers.

I’ve been living by the quote recently, ‘Don’t stop when you want to quit; stop when you’re done.’ I feel like I am not done yet.”

Jurors Removed In George Floyd Murder Trial
Two jurors dropped after $27M settlement
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A judge has dismissed two jurors who had been seated for the trial of a former Minneapolis police officer in George Floyd’s death. Judge Peter Cahill acted Wednesday after recalling seven jurors for fresh questioning over fears that they had been tainted by the city’s announcement last week of a $27 million settlement to Floyd’s family. Former officer Derek Chauvin’s attorney, Eric Nelson, had requested the recall. Nelson had called the timing of the announcement in the middle of jury selection “profoundly disturbing to the defense” and “not fair.” He has also requested a delay in the trial, which Cahill is considering. Cahill has set opening statements for March 29 at the earliest, but dismissal of some of the jurors already seated risked imperiling that date.
Police: Georgia Shooting Suspect May Have ‘Sexual Addiction’

ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia officials say that the suspect in a series of shootings at Atlanta-area massage parlors that left eight people dead may have a “sexual addiction” and that it was too early to say if the attack was a hate crime. Police arrested a white 21-year-old Georgia man who they say has taken responsibility for the shootings, while denying they were racially motivated. Many of the victims were women of Asian descent. Instead, officials told reporters Wednesday that Robert Aaron Long said he was a frequent visitor of massage parlors and intended to eliminate the temptation he thought they posed. He was on his way to Florida and intended to commit similar crimes there, they said.
US Jesuits Pledge $100M For Racial Reconciliation
The initiative is the GU272 Descendants Association, which represents the descendants of 272 slaves sold by the Jesuit owners of Georgetown University in 1838.
The U.S.-based branch of the Jesuits has unveiled ambitious plans for a “truth and reconciliation” initiative in partnership with descendants of slaves once owned by the Roman Catholic religious order. The Jesuits pledge to raise $100 million within five years from their existing fundraising network. The broader goal is to raise $1 billion from an array of donors in pursuit of racial justice and racial healing. The Jesuits’ partner in the initiative is an association representing the descendants of 272 enslaved men, women and children sold by the Jesuit owners of Georgetown University to plantation owners in Louisiana in 1838.

Former Washington Offensive Lineman Sees HUGE Payday
49ers hand Trent Williams richest contract ever for offensive lineman.
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers have locked up their biggest potential free agent for the long term by agreeing to give star left tackle Trent Williams the richest contract ever for an offensive lineman. Williams’ agents at Elite Loyalty Sports say the deal will pay Williams $138.1 million over the next six years, surpassing the $138 million deal David Bakhtiari got from Green Bay during last season.
Williams also will get the biggest signing bonus ever for an offensive lineman at $30.1 million, as well as $55.1 million guaranteed. Williams sat out the entire 2019 season in Washington over a dispute with the front office before reviving his career in San Francisco, earning his eighth Pro Bowl selection.
