From Ice Storm to Water Crisis

Cities slammed by winter storms face new crisis: No water

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Cities slammed by winter storms that left millions without power for days have traded one crisis for another. Broken water pipes brought on by record-low temperatures have created a shortage of clean drinking water, shut down airports on Friday and left hospitals scrambling. Many people finally have electricity back after a deadly blast of winter this week overwhelmed the electrical grid and left millions shivering in the cold for days. But now 7 million people in Texas have been ordered to boil their water before consuming it. Nearly all 161,000 residents in Jackson, Mississippi, lost water service. The airport in Memphis canceled flights because of water pressure issues.

The palace said in a statement issued Friday that the couple have verified “they will not be returning as working members of the Royal Family.” It said Harry’s appointment as captain general of the Royal Marines and with other military groups would revert to Queen Elizabeth II. The couple now live in California and are expecting their second child.

Dionne Warwick Confirms A Biopic Starring Teyana Taylor Is In The Works

Dionne Warwick has confirmed that a biopic about her life is happening with Teyana Taylor.
The project will not be a typical two-hour movie, though.
The singer said, “It’s going to be a series, we’re planning to do an episodic type of a show.”
She also says that the project will most likely be on Netflix. “They’re not the only place that we’re looking at, but Netflix seems to be the leading episodic platform to do something similar to what I want to do. There’s a lot of very exciting stuff going on right now.”
Who else would be a good choice to play Dionne in a biopic?

Nasa Mars Rover Lands

NASA says a rover has landed on Mars to mine for evidence of whether life once existed there.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — A NASA rover has landed on Mars in an epic quest to bring back rocks that could answer whether life ever existed on the red planet. The space agency says the six-wheeled Perseverance hurtled through the thin, orange atmosphere and settled onto the surface Thursday in the mission’s riskiest maneuver yet. Mars has long been a deathtrap for incoming spacecraft. Perseverance will collect geological samples that will be brought back to Earth in about a decade to be analyzed for signs of ancient microscopic life.

Texas Weather Crisis Continues

Texas power outages below 500,000 but water woes persists.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Power was restored to more homes and businesses in Texas after a deadly blast of winter this week overwhelmed the electrical grid and left millions shivering in the cold. But the crisis was far from over, with many people still in need of safe drinking water. Fewer than a half-million homes remained without electricity, although utility officials said limited rolling blackouts could still occur. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says 7 million people have been ordered to boil their water before consuming it. The extreme weather was blamed for the deaths of over three dozen people, some while trying to keep warm.

Don’t Put Food Outside If Your Freezer Loses Power, Says USDA

As chilly temperatures sweep the nation it could be tempting to put your food out in snowy conditions in order to keep them good while your power is out but the USDA is saying it’s not a good idea.

The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has a long list of reasons why you shouldn’t put your food outside:

The sun’s rays could thaw out the food even though it’s below freezing outside.

Temperatures could vary during the day and night causing the food not to be safe.

Food being stored outside could be exposed to unsanitary conditions and animals that could have bacteria or disease.

For a full list of helpful tips on what to do with your food if you lose power or if you need to know what to throw away and keep go to fsis.usda.gov.

What are ways you’re keeping warm or saving your food during the deep freeze?

Conservative Radio Host Rush Limbaugh Dead At 70

Limbaugh survived a number of health scares before dying of cancer.

(Palm Beach, FL)  —   Longtime talk radio host Rush Limbaugh is dead.  The 70-year-old passed away after a year-long battle with advanced lung cancer, a diagnosis he revealed was terminal just months ago.  Limbaugh is widely considered one of the most influential and polarizing media members of the past 50 years, using his far-reaching microphone to push conservative candidates and initiatives.  He was also known for promoting racist and sexist philosophies during the course of his career, including birther conspiracy theories during the first presidential campaign of Barack Obama.  Since achieving radio syndication stardom in the late 80’s, he has grown into the most listened-to radio show in the U.S. Limbaugh opened up about his cancer battle late last year, admitting he wasn’t expecting to make it to December.  In February of 2020, President Trump awarded Limbaugh the Presidential Medal of Freedom during his final State of the Union address.

Limbaugh was born in Missouri in 1951.  After dropping out of Southeast Missouri State University, 20-year-old Limbaugh accepted an offer to DJ at a Top 40 station in McKeesport, Pennsylvania in 1971.  He moved around from station to station and dropped out of radio to work in sales for the Kansas City Royals baseball team.  He eventually returned to radio and in 1988, his show was offered to a national syndicated audience. This was the turning point for Limbaugh.  Over 600 stations across the U.S. eventually picked up the show within a few years and Limbaugh soon became a national brand, known for his brash, sometimes comical and often controversial political and social takes.  He became a true political force in the 1990’s and is credited for helping Republicans take the majority in the House of Representatives in 1994.  Limbaugh also had his own syndicated TV show with a live audience from 1992 to 1996 and was a “New York Times” bestselling author.

The Rush Limbaugh Show drew a rabid fan base of so-called “Dittoheads.”  At one point, restaurants from coast to coast set up “Rush Rooms” with Limbaugh’s show being piped in through speakers.  Limbaugh is credited for fueling the rise of conservative talk on radio, generating millions of dollars in revenue for stations.  His show is estimated to have attracted between 15-and-20 million listeners a week.

Limbaugh survived a number of health scares before dying of cancer.  In 2001, Limbaugh said he was “100-percent, totally deaf” for all practical purposes.  It’s not known what caused the deafness, but doctors were able to successfully restore most of his hearing through a cochlear implant.  Limbaugh was divorced three times and was currently married to Kathryn Rogers since 2010.  He does not have any children.

A Second Winter Storm Threatens Southern Plains

100 million Americans brace for more cold, ice and snow

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Another winter storm front is blowing through the nation’s midsection, where power grids haven’t adjusted for the wild weather swings that come with climate change. More than 100 million people live in areas covered Wednesday by some type of winter weather warning, watch or advisory. Millions remain without power in the record-breaking cold, mostly in Texas. At least 20 people have died. Blame the polar vortex. The weather pattern usually keeps to the Arctic, but it’s increasingly visiting lower latitudes and staying beyond its welcome. Scientists say global warming caused by humans is partly responsible for the polar vortex’s southward escapes becoming longer and more frequent.

Trump Atlantic City Casino Demolished

Former Trump casino where stars played goes out with a bang.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — A spot on the Atlantic City Boardwalk where movie stars, athletes and rock stars used to party and a future president honed his instincts for bravado and hype has been reduced to a dusty pile of rubble. The former Trump Plaza casino was imploded Wednesday morning after falling into such disrepair that chunks of the building began peeling off and crashing to the ground. And the one-time jewel of former President Donald Trump’s casino empire is now gone, clearing the way for a prime development opportunity on the middle of the Boardwalk, where the Plaza used to market itself as “Atlantic City’s centerpiece.”

Democrat Rep. Sues Trump Over Capitol Attack

Dem’s lawsuit accuses Trump of inciting deadly Capitol riot

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House Homeland Security chairman has sued Donald Trump, accusing him of inciting the deadly insurrection at the Capitol. Democrat Bennie Thompson alleges that Trump conspired with members of far-right extremist groups to try to prevent Congress from certifying the presidential election results.  The federal court lawsuit is part of an expected wave of litigation over the riot and is believed to be the first filed by a member of Congress. It was filed under a Reconstruction-era law known as the Ku Klux Klan Act and comes days after Trump was acquitted in an impeachment trial. The suit seeks unspecified punitive and compensatory damages. A Trump adviser says Trump “did not incite” any violence at the Capitol.

Cost of a single Bitcoin exceeds $50,000 for first time

SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) — After a wild week in which Bitcoin soared to new heights, Bitcoin is crossing the $50,000 mark. Bitcoin rallied last week as more companies signaled the volatile digital currency could eventually gain widespread acceptance as a means of payment for goods and services. Bitcoin has been mostly seen as a store of value, like gold, with some limited merchants accepting it for payment. Last Monday, Elon Musk’s electric car company, Tesla, announced that it would soon accept it as payment for its high-end cars. But analysts predict a slow evolution toward widespread usage. Bitcoin, which is up almost 200% in just the past three months, is up again Tuesday.

“When it comes to my father. Lol you know his body of work; we came from his actual nuts.”

**BREAKING NEWS** SENATE ACQUITS DONALD TRUMP

The vote will give the former president an historic second acquittal in an impeachment trial.

By a vote of 57 to 43, the United States Senate has voted to acquit former President Donald John Trump during the second impeachment trial.  Seven Republicans voted  guilty with all 50 Democrats.

The vote will give the former president an historic second acquittal in an impeachment trial.

House Democrats, who voted a month ago to charge Trump with “incitement of insurrection,” needed two thirds of the Senate, or 67 votes, to convict him.

The Democrats argued in the short trial that Trump caused the violent attack by repeating for months the false claims that the election was stolen from him, and then telling his supporters gathered near the White House that morning to “fight like hell” to overturn his defeat. Five people died when they then laid siege to the Capitol.

Trump’s lawyers argued that the rioters acted on their own accord and that he was protected by freedom of speech, an argument that resonated with most Republicans. They said the case was brought on by Democrats’ “hatred” of Trump.
