Washington, D.C. (Wednesday, March 3, 2021) – The soft soothing sound of WHUR’S 24/7 Quiet Storm Station is expanding, giving more Washington, D.C. area listeners a chance to experience the relaxing romantic format. Listeners with analog radios can now tune in to hear their favorite slow jams non-stop on 98.3FM.
The expansion comes as the heritage flagship station 96.3 WHUR FM is set to mark its 50th Anniversary this year. “WHUR has long been a trailblazer in the industry and we are always looking for new opportunities to expand our brand. The addition of 98.3FM now allows us to have a greater reach across the DMV,” said WHUR General Manager Sean Plater.
The Quiet Storm Station was launched last December on 96.3HD2 holding true to the original flavor of the Quiet Storm set in place back in 1976 by the late Melvin Lindsey and still heard nightly on WHUR 96.3FM. “Whether in your office, car, or at home; the Quiet Storm Station sets the right mood for the DMV and now with 98.3FM there are more ways for Washington to relax and unwind,” added Plater.
The Quiet Storm Station is available at 98.3FM and 96.3HD2 with an HD Radio. It’s also available at www.thequietstormstation.com and on The Quiet Storm Station mobile app.

PPP, the Paycheck Protection Program was designed to keep small businesses afloat after they were hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic last year. Another round is in President Biden’s COVID relief plan now making it’s way through the U.S. Senate. But not every person who applied did it correctly. Some made mistakes. Others should not have applied because they weren’t eligible… and they knew it. Now some are facing federal prosecution. This a cautionary tale and advice for those who may consider applying for… or even defrauding the PPP system.

(Washington, DC) — The deadly January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol was an act of domestic terrorism. So said FBI Director Chris Wray during a Senate hearing. Wray testified that domestic terrorism has been brewing for years and remains a top priority for the FBI. Wray said hundreds of suspects have been identified in a wide-ranging, ongoing investigation of the January 6th attack. Wray noted that threats of racially-motivated violence by white supremacists have skyrocketed. He also expressed concerns about threats of violence against law enforcement officials.
FBI Director Christopher Wray
Capitol Police were quickly overwhelmed by a huge mob of angry Trump supporters as Congress met to certify the results of the presidential election. Wray said he has seen no evidence that the Capitol attack was provoked by fake Trump protesters. He also noted no evidence of involvement by Antifa. Wray confirmed the existence of an FBI threat assessment of a possible large-scale attack at the Capitol before January 6th. He called it raw and unverified. Wray insisted it was shared with Capitol Police. However, Capitol security officials have testified that they did not see the FBI threat alert. They blamed faulty intelligence for the lack of preparedness.
(Baltimore, MD) — Governor Larry Hogan says the state is expecting to get a shipment of nearly 50-thousand doses of the Johnson and Johnson COVID vaccine this week. But, he says, this will be the only shipment for at least the next two weeks. As of today, more than one-point-five-million Maryland residents have received at least one dose of the vaccine. Federal health officials say it’s important for residents to get the earliest available vaccine, regardless of brand.

I am no longer a Democrat. I cannot stand for the defunding of the police, higher taxes on working families and job-killing socialist policies that will devastate Americans of all walks of life.
Now, let me make one thing clear—I haven’t changed. The Democratic Party has changed. It’s become a toxic combination of radical leftists and liberal elites in San Francisco and Hollywood have taken over my former Party.
#Repost: We had a candid 33 min convo with the former CEO of Dekalb County, Vernon Jones. Do love a nice, thick, juicy ribeye steak? Maybe prime rib or filet mignon? For red meateaters they are favorites. But how much is too much? Is all of it just not good for you or can you have it in moderation? We talk about these health questions and others related to red meat consumption.
WASHINGTON – Howard University President Wayne A. I. Frederick will serve as keynote speaker for the 2021 Charter Day Convocation on Friday, March 5 at 11 a.m. Dr. Frederick holds three academic degrees from Howard University and exemplifies the institutional motto of truth and service.
Each year, the Charter Day Convocation ceremony commemorates the signing of the federal charter on March 2, 1867 establishing Howard as a university. At this year’s ceremony, Dr. Frederick is expected to speak about the challenges, and latest signs of hope, related to the coronavirus pandemic. Dr. Frederick will also aim to recommit members of the University community to Howard’s widely recognized leadership role in ameliorating social injustices and inequality, as well as other values such as student opportunity and campus diversity. In January, Howard University celebrated the inauguration of Howard alumna Kamala Harris as vice president of the United States, the first time an African-American or a woman has ever held that office.
Over the past year, Dr. Frederick has galvanized Howard University’s historic response to the coronavirus outbreak, which has disproportionately affected communities of color. Through his leadership, Howard University has played an important role through its various medical-related entities and scientific infrastructure, research expertise and successful outreach initiatives in diverse communities.
As an undergraduate, Dr. Frederick was a student in Howard University’s B.S./M.D. dual degree program. He completed the requirements for both degrees in six years, allowing him to earn his Bachelor of Science degree and his medical degree by the age of 22. He also earned a Master of Business Administration from Howard University’s School of Business in 2011, and he performed post-doctoral research and surgical oncology fellowships at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Upon his return to Howard University, his academic positions included associate dean in the College of Medicine, division chief in the Department of Surgery, director of the Cancer Center and deputy provost for Health Sciences. Dr. Frederick also served as provost and chief academic officer. In 2014, he was appointed the 17th president of Howard University. Most recently, the Howard University Board of Trustees selected Dr. Frederick to serve as the distinguished Charles R. Drew professor of surgery.
During his tenure as president, Dr. Frederick pursued initiatives to streamline and strengthen University operations. Dr. Frederick also devotes his time to writing and speaking on salient topics in higher education, including the impact of historically Black colleges and universities, campus intellectual diversity, the underrepresentation of African-American men in medical school and gender equity on college campuses.
The March 5 Convocation sets the stage for this year’s Charter Day Virtual Celebration. Traditionally a black-tie gala, the virtual celebration will be a fundraising event with the proceeds supporting financial aid for Howard students.
This week we celebrate the female pioneers in entertainment. From the soulful music of Aretha Franklin to the Triple Crown Queen of acting, Viola Davis. #WomensHistoryMonth
(Washington, DC) — The National Cherry Blossom Festival starts late this month. Organizers say there won’t be an in-person parade this year due to coronavirus worries, but a virtual Paws & Petals Parade is scheduled for April 3rd. The Japan Foundation will co-present the March 20th opening ceremony featuring performers from Japan and the U.S. Peak bloom is expected from April 2nd to April 5th. More information is at nationalcherryblossomfestival.org.
Veteran Washington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith is expected to be released from the team, possibly as soon as today or tomorrow. Smith’s return to gridiron last year was the NFL’s feel-good story of the year. In 2018 Smith’s leg was broken during a game against the Houston Texans. After 17 surgeries that saved his leg from amputation, Smith’s heroic late-season play last year took Washington to the playoffs.

Ladies’ Night is always lit. We were “three” this week, with Autumn, Coka-Lani, and myself (Angela)
As always, the conversation was driven by current events, along with what’s going on within our own individual platforms. Autumn kicked off Women’s History Month. Coka-Lani got us all excited about her D’Angela Face-Off!
Of course, I’m always bringing the Pillow Talk. We talked about Lionel Richie’s 30 year old girlfriend. He’s 70, by the way. So, we talked about our personal age preferences when dating.
All I can say is, wait until you hear what one of the ladies say about her younger days as a Sugar Baby! LOL! I’m still laughing about that!

White America does that enough for us! And oop, let’s not forget Cam Newton has “dropped the ball” in life, like most of us humans, but suddenly we can’t look past a teenager who made a verbal mistake. He didn’t curse. He didn’t throw no blows. He didn’t stab no one. Nothing. He talked trash like most athletes do— and he’s been crucified as a result.

Repost by @PeninaBrown: We did an update on the teenager who heckled Cam Newton and clearly I feel a way about it. I think it’s crazy that WE vilify our own kids. White America does that enough for us! He didn’t throw no blows. He didn’t stab no one. Nothing. He talked trash like most athletes do— and he’s been crucified as a result. Y’all doing the most. I said what I said and I will not make any apologies for it. I believe in our kids and I believe they are allowed to make mistakes and can still grow up to be amazing. While this kid was disrespectful, I don’t believe the proper thing to do is embarrass him in front of his peers. Pull him aside and talk to him one-on-one, you will go so much farther if you’re really trying to make an impact in his life.

Repost by @PeninaBrown – Listen! I believe in kids way more than adults and if you raise them right, from infancy, pour into them, give them what THEY need (not what you need) and teach them the principles and fundamentals of life, then you won’t have to worry about them going astray as adults. I said what I said, and I stand by it. This was a good conversation @frankski & I had on @whurfm. I don’t believe kids should be disrespectful to adults, but I equally believe, just because they’re kids doesn’t mean you have the right to talk to them any kind of way. Kids deserve respect as well. Periodt. While this kid was disrespectful, I don’t believe the proper thing to do is embarrass him in front of his peers. Pull him aside and talk to him one-on-one, you will go so much farther if you’re really trying to make an impact in his life. And as a side note, it feels quite hypocritical to me that we put these children in the most aggressive arena on the field and expect them to just turn it off when the whistle blows. Umm, yeah okay.
but let’s not discuss the worst case scenarios… because those are the scenarios that end up in divorce anyway and the phone was simply the conduit & ultimately the demise of the marriage was inevitable.

Repost by @PeninaBrown: It was refreshing to hear several men from the DMV call in and say, if you’re married, then both people, husband and wife, should know the other’s phone lock code (most of those callers were edited out for this repost, but they were aired live on our show). Now, we already know if a person feels the need to constantly look in a phone, they clearly don’t trust their spouse, or have their own insecurities, and either way, there are deeper issues within that relationship… but let’s not discuss the worst case scenarios… because those are the scenarios that end up in divorce anyway and the phone was simply the conduit & ultimately the demise of the marriage was inevitable. #tapin#frankskishow#withninabrown#whurfm@frankskishow @frankski

But this is also reminding us about long-standing issues about environmental equity in communities of color. These are issues we need to pay attention to now, more than ever before.
It turns out Kanye West’s failed bid for the U.S. presidency didn’t come cheap. Sources say the 43-year-old rapper spent at least $13.2 million on his campaign.
What’s more is $12.5 million of that money came from West’s own pocket, according to campaign report filed with the Federal Election Commission. West managed to raise about $2 million in donations, bringing his total campaign fund to $14.5 million, the commission reports. When he finally ended his run after four months, all but $1.3 million had been spent, the report reveals.
West, who ran for office as a member of the “Birthday Party,” received 66,000 votes on Election Day — which comes out to about $200 per vote.
At any point in his campaign, did you think Kanye had a chance at winning? Will his candidacy open the door for a future hit maker to stage a more successful campaign?

NEW YORK (AP) — The Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation is formally expanding a $3 million financial relief fund that it quietly launched earlier this month to help people struggling to make ends meet during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. It plans to make 3,000 microgrants of $1,000 each to people who it believes need it most. If approved, the money is deposited directly into recipients’ bank accounts or made available on prepaid debit cards, the foundation says — no strings attached. The Survival Fund launches Thursday as the nation awaits Congress to take action on a nearly $2 trillion relief package that includes $1,400 direct stimulus payments to individuals who earn less than $75,000 in annual income.

NEW YORK (AP) — A New York prosecutor has obtained copies of Donald Trump’s tax records after the Supreme Court this week rejected the former president’s last-ditch effort to prevent them from being handed over. District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. had been fighting for a year and a half for access to Trump’s tax records for a criminal grand jury investigation into his business dealings. The documents are protected by grand jury secrecy rules and are not expected to be made public.

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that her sister, 64-year-old Mercia Bowser died from complications of the coronavirus. The mayor released this statement this afternoon.
“My family and I are mourning the loss of my sister, Mercia Bowser, who passed away this morning due to complications related to COVID-19. Mercia was loved immensely and will be missed greatly, as she joins the legion of angels who have gone home too soon due to the pandemic. I ask that you continue to keep those who have been lost or impacted by the pandemic and those who are working so hard to protect us from it in your thoughts and prayers, and I respectfully request that my family and I are granted the time and space we need to mourn the loss of Mercia.
“Mercia was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She worked tirelessly for children, the elderly, and those with behavioral disorders until her retirement and beyond. She counted many friends and fond memories of her service to Catholic Charities and the DC Office on Aging. She is survived by her parents Joan and Joseph Bowser, brothers, sister, nieces, nephews, and a host friends ranging from St. John’s Elementary School, to Academy of Our Lady High School, to Fisk University, and Israel Metropolitan CME Church.
“We are grateful to the doctors and nurses at Washington Hospital Center, who heroically treated her for COVID-19 related pneumonia until her death. We thank you for your kindness and will share how our family will honor Mercia, my only sister and oldest sibling, and her beautiful spirit in the coming days.”
