DOJ Says IRS Must Give Trump Tax Returns to Congress

House Ways and Means Committee sued for the records

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department says the Treasury Department must provide the House Ways and Means Committee former President Donald Trump’s tax returns, apparently ending a long legal showdown over the records. During the Trump administration, then-Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said he wouldn’t turn over the tax returns because he concluded they were being sought by Democrats who control the House of Representatives for partisan reasons. The committee sued for the records under a federal law that says the Internal Revenue Service “shall furnish” the returns of any taxpayer to a handful of top lawmakers. The committee said it needed Trump’s taxes for an investigation into whether he complied with tax law.

DC Mask Mandate Returns

New regulations begin Saturday

WASHINGTON — The nation’s capital is reinstating mandatory indoor mask requirements, regardless of vaccination status.  D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced the new regulations begin Saturday and apply to everyone over age 2.

“I know that D.C. residents have been very closely following the public health guidelines and they will embrace this,” Bowser said. “We will continue to do what is necessary to keep D.C. safe.”

The move had been expected in the face of local infection numbers and new guidance from the Center for Disease Control, which now encourages vaccinated people to wear masks indoors in areas classified as having “substantial community transmission” levels. That includes Washington and the neighboring Virginia communities of Alexandria and Loudon counties.

The city’s public health emergency expired this week, but a general state of public emergency remains in place. Bowser says the only exception to the new rules are when people are “actively eating and drinking.”

D.C. Health Director Dr. LaQuandra Nesbitt says there will be a renewed vaccination push because shots “continue to prevent severe illness, hospitalization and death.”

Hundreds Of San Francisco Bars Requiring COVID Tests

Contributed By Scott Lipscomb

As the country begins to rise in cases again, many bars are taking extra precautions to slow the spread of the deadly virus. Many bars have begun requiring proof of a negative test or vaccination.

The New York Post reported “The San Francisco Bar Owner Alliance, which represents more than 500 bar owners in the area, said it changed its position this week on requiring proof of vaccination or a negative test due to a recent uptick in cases “among our staff members, especially those who are fully vaccinated.”

Tests must be from a 72 hour window for customers wishing to dine indoors, while outside guest will not need a test or vaccination.

“This decision is based solely on our need to protect our workers, customers and their families,” the group said in a statement. “However, we hope it might also influence some who have not yet received vaccinations to do so as soon as they are able.”

In other major cities such as DC, Boston, and Bridgeport, they are beginning to take similar precautions for inside dining and bar use. While many states have fully reopened, business are allowed to set their own rules on mask and testing requirements.

Accusations Of Racism Surface After Nelly Concert Receives Criticism

Nelly’s concert at North Idaho’s State Fair may not happen if Duane Rasmussen and Rich Loudenback have anything to do with it. According to Rasmussen and Loudenback, Nelly’s music is “vulgar” and an email that has circulated says the fair board is “sacrificing its values for money from out-of-towners.”

Nelly is scheduled to perform on August 23rd in Coeur d’Alene. But Rev. Van Noy, pastor of Candlelight Christian Fellowship Church, says that he and Coeur d’Alene’s mayor Steve Widmyer, have been receiving calls saying Nelly is being discriminated against.

“This I find appalling! To judge a person based upon their ethnicity is condemned in Scripture and is an insult to our Creator,” said Van Noy. “I heard from panicked, frightened, broken, disturbed, and hurting persons — one of whom was wounded and crying — by what was perceived to be threats by ‘Conservatives and Christians on a mission to destroy.’”

Do you think Nelly’s suggestive lyrics of the past should keep him from performing at a State Fair?

Attorney Ben Crump Sues Johnson & Johnson

Civil Rights Attorney Ben Crump is taking on Johnson & Johnson on behalf of members of the National Council of Negro Women. The suit accuses the company of marketing its talcum powder products to Black women since the 1990s while knowing those products could cause cancer.

(Wednesday, July 28, 2021) – Civil Rights Attorney Ben Crump is taking on Johnson & Johnson. Crump has filed a lawsuit against J & J on behalf of members of the National Council of Negro Women.

The suit accuses the company of marketing its talcum powder products to Black women since the 1990s while knowing those products could cause cancer.

“I would be remiss if I did not say exactly what this lawsuit is about.  It is about the lives of our grandmothers, our mothers, our sisters, our daughters, our nieces, and our wives; and how they were sinisterly targeted by Johnson & Johnson,” Crump said at a news conference.

Several of the women spoke at the Tuesday press conference detailing their families’ use of the Johnson & Johnson talcum powder products.  Lydia Huston spoke about how her mother died in 2014 of ovarian cancer.  “We had a routine and it involved hygiene, a very clean home, and a very clean body.   And just like deodorant, soap, lotion, and toothpaste; talcum powder was a part of the daily routine that she had for over 30 years,” said Huston.

Johnson & Johnson has denied that its baby powder product causes cancer.  Last year, an appellate court in Missouri upheld more than $2 billion in damages against J&J saying they company knew there was asbestos in its baby powder.

CDC Recommends Vaccinated Wear Masks Indoors in Areas with Low Vaccination Rates

(Washington, DC) — The CDC is updating its mask guidance, recommending that vaccinated people wear masks indoors in areas where there are high levels of infection. On a media call, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said this will help prevent the spread of the highly transmissible Delta variant. She said the vast majority of transmission is being spread among unvaccinated individuals, but there are some breakthrough cases. Walensky said, “vaccinating more Americans now is more urgent than ever.”

The CDC is also recommending that all students in kindergarten through 12th grade should wear masks when they return to schools this fall, including students who have been vaccinated. Walensky said students can return in-person with the proper prevention strategies.

Simone Biles was forced to withdraw from the women’s team gymnastic final on Tuesday for medical reasons, as the Russia Olympic Committee (ROC) took gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The ROC’s team of Vladislava Urazova, Viktoriia Listunova and Angelina Melnikova won with a score of 169.528, while Team USA took silver with 166.096 and Great Britain bronze with 164.096, CNN reported.

Biles withdrew from the final on Tuesday after leaving the arena to be attended to by the trainer.

During the first rotation of the team competition, performing her Amanar vault , Biles only managed one-and-a-half rotations and landed awkwardly — prompting gasps from onlookers in the Ariake Gymnastics Centre.

“Simone Biles has withdrawn from the team final competition due to a medical issue,” said a USA Gymnastics statement. “She will be assessed daily to determine medical clearance for future competitions. Thinking of you, Simone!”

Biles returned in her tracksuit before the second rotation to show support to her teammates and cheer them on.

Russia’s Listunova scored 14.166 for her flawless floor routine, growing the ROC’s lead to more than three points, followed by Melnikova who then scored 13.966 to seal the win and spark emotional celebrations with her teammates.

“I knew that it was depending on me and I was feeling overwhelming happiness and I knew I did it. I knew I had done my job,” Melnikova said of her floor routine.
“We still can’t believe it’s happening. The impossible is possible now … We worked extremely hard, we were basically in a closed training camp for a year and a half, working for this moment.”
