Some Republicans Call Out Trump About Congressman John Dingell Comment

Republicans Criticize Trump’s “Hell” Comment About Former Congressman

(Washington, DC) — A number of Republicans are calling on President Trump to apologize for his comment about former Michigan Congressman John Dingell, who died earlier this year. South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham said if he said it, he should apologize. Trump said during a rally Wednesday night in Michigan that the former Congressman was “looking up” from hell. Graham said Dingell, a World War Two veteran, was a fine, fine man. Republican Congressman Fred Upton of Michigan said Trump should apologize for the “unfortunate” remark. Another Republican Congressman from Michigan, Paul Mitchell, also demanded an apology. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said Dingell served his country well, but did not criticize the President.

USDA Removes Listing Of A Trade Deal With Wakanda From Website

Tseng when to the site to research how the country’s tarriff deals are affecting food distributions and hunger in the countries the US trades with.

Earlier this week if you went to the USDA website you would have seen a listing of nations that the US has free trade deals with that listed Wakanda. Wakanda is the fictional nation of Marvel comics Black Panther.

USDA officials say they were testing the system and that was added accidentally. The site went as far as to list some of the items the US trades with the fictional nation including coffee beans, fresh vegetables, and livestock.

The discovery was made by software engineer Francis Tseng. He posted the listing on twitter and it was taken down a short time after that. Tseng when to the site to research how the country’s tarriff deals are affecting food distributions and hunger in the countries the US trades with. He said he was shocked to see Wakanda and he even googled it to make sure that it wasn’t an actual place.

According to the Internet Archive, Wakanda made it on the U.S. free trade list sometime after June 10th.

President Trump 3rd US President To Be Impeached

Washington, D.C. – (Wednesday, December 18, 2019) – As expected, the U.S. House of Representatives voted, along party lines, to impeach President Donald Trump.  In what concluded a marathon of debate, the House approved two articles of impeachment against the 45th president charging Trump with abuse of power and obstruction of congress.

Trump becomes only the third American chief executive to be formally charged under the Constitution’s ultimate remedy for high crimes and misdemeanors.  The articles of impeachment, which account for the political equivalent of an indictment, now go to the Senate for trial.  Political observers suspect that Trump will be acquitted by the Republican-led chamber.  Nonetheless, he is likely to run for reelection carrying the stain of impeachment on his back.

The Senate trial is expected to begin sometime in January in the Senate, where a vote of two-thirds is necessary for convict him.  “Today we are here to defend democracy for the people,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said today during the opening of the six-hour House debate.  Following the impeachment, Pelosi called today a sad day yet a necessary day to maintain democracy.

For his part, President Trump began today tweeting his anger at the proceedings, then flew to Battle Creek, Michigan for a political rally.  Just after the impeachment vote, Trump went on a long rant before supporters saying it is the democrats who are the ones in the wrong. “You are declaring open war on American democracy.  We did nothing wrong.  You are the ones obstructing justice,” said an angry Trump.

U.S. House Impeaches President Trump

President Donald Trump impeached by US House on 2 charges

The U.S. House has impeached President Donald Trump on a charge he abused the power of his office to investigate a political rival ahead of the 2020 election. Trump becomes the third president in U.S. history to be impeached. The House then approved a second charge, obstruction of Congress. Democrats control the House, and the voting was mostly along party lines. The charges against Trump will next go to the Republican-controlled Senate for a trial in January. Trump, who says he’s done nothing wrong, would almost certainly be acquitted there.

Marathon House Impeachment Debate Underway

House marches toward Trump impeachment; he claims ‘assault’

Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is declaring that lawmakers are rising to “defend democracy” in their vote to impeach President Donald Trump. The president insists they’re actually perpetrating “an assault on America.” The House is heading toward a Wednesday night impeachment vote that’s all but certain to send the two charges against Trump on to the Senate for a January trial. Trump would be just the third American president to be impeached, a distinctive dark mark on his tenure. Republican supporters say the Democrats are just trying to remove a president they couldn’t beat at the ballot box.

Billboard announced that the song topped this week’s chart, giving Carey her 19th No. 1 of her career. She is only behind the Beatles, who have had 20 songs top the Hot 100 chart.

A judge has dismissed a hate crime charge against a white man who fatally stabbed a black college student at the University of Maryland. But a murder trial will continue Wednesday for 24-year-old Sean Urbanski. A defense attorney and a state’s attorney’s office spokeswoman said Tuesday that a judge agreed to acquit Urbanski of the hate crime charge. Jurors in the case are expected to begin deliberating on Wednesday. Prosecutors say Urbanski saved at least six photographs of racist memes on his cellphone and liked a Facebook group called “Alt-Reich: Nation.” Defense attorneys say the May 2017 killing of Richard Collins III was not racially motivated.

Hundreds of Toys And Gifts Collected For Needy Youth

“We know the holidays can be a tough time for many families. We are honored to be in a position to giveback and provide an avenue where our listeners can lend a helping hand to their neighbors,” said WHUR General Manager Sean Plater.

Washington, D.C., (December 16, 2019) – 96.3 WHUR FM – the heritage station of the Howard University Radio Network is giving Santa a helping hand this holiday season, hosting its 17th Annual Toy Drive Saturday, December 14th from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Shops at Iverson – 3737 Branch Avenue in Temple Hills, Maryland. Radio Veteran Coka Lani took her show on the road broadcasting from center court, encouraging loyal and caring listeners to drop by and donate a new unwrapped toy for a needy child in the DMV.

Despite the cold rain, dozens of listeners heeded the call, donating over 1,200 toys and gifts like bikes, dolls, computer games, kitchen sets, racecars, footballs, books, and gift cards. The toys were distributed to youth serviced by the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center, YMCA of Metropolitan Washington, Shepherd’s Cove Shelter, Bright Beginnings, Sisters4Sisters, and the Prince George’s County Family Justice Center. Each year, the organizations provide WHUR with a list of toys needed for children ranging in age from two to 17-years-old. WHUR added to the list of organizations Women’s Wing, after thieves broke into the organizations truck stealing thousands of dollars in toys.

For nearly two decades, WHUR has responded to the needs of children in the Washington region by hosting a coat drive in October and toy drive in December. “Without WHUR, the holidays would be very bleak for hundreds of children. We are truly thankful that WHUR steps up to the plate every year to make sure the holiday season is joyous for our children,” said Denise McCain, Director of the Prince George’s County Family Justice Center, an organization that helps victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Listeners who made a donation received a free Maryland Lottery ticket, courtesy of the Maryland Lottery. “We know the holidays can be a tough time for many families. We are honored to be in a position to giveback and provide an avenue where our listeners can lend a helping hand to their neighbors,” said WHUR General Manager Sean Plater.

Do Men Like Being Chased?

Join us at midnight tonight as we discuss the dating scene.

Has dating changed drastically in the last 10 / 20 years? There used to be a time when men took the lead when it came to dating. Or, as the older generations used to say, courting! He’d be the one to ask the woman out on a date. He’d plan and pay for the dates. He would buy flowers and other nice things for her. He pursued her.

But is that still the norm? Many men say that women are really aggressive these days and seem to have no problems pursuing them. In many cases, the women are clearly the aggressors. Some women even take the lead when it comes to proposing marriage.

The question tonight is, do men like being chased? It seems that it would be flattering to men, at least, in the beginning. Right? Can it lead to lasting love and solid relationships? What are your thoughts?

Our musical guest tonight is uber talented saxophonist, Skip Pruitt. Skip, who hails from Motown – Detroit, MI, has been a resident of the DMV for quite awhile now. He has played with luminaries including Luther Vandross, Phyllis Hyman, George Duke, Will Downing, Ledisi …and the list really does go on and on!

Skip is one of the most sought after musicians performing today. He’s an international recording artist who is always touring.Fortunately, he belongs to Pillow Talk With Angela tonight! #tunein

Rethinking Gender Neutral Toys For Children

Is it time for parents to rethink gender-specific toys and gifts for their children?

Picking an appropriate gift for your child or someone else’s child is hard enough these days.  What do you buy the boys?  What do you buy the girls?  More and more, those questions are not being asked.  Maybe the girl asks for a play toolkit.  Maybe the boy wants a kitchen set.  If that’s the case… how do you handle those requests?

Charged was 46-year-old Jason Baker. Wednesday he was handed down an involuntary manslaughter charged for giving fentanyl to Josiah Klaes. Prosecutors say cell phone texts show Baker knew how young Klaes as well as his height and weight but he was more concerned about making money than the health or safety of the teen.

An autopsy conducted by the chief medical examiner found the cause of death to be the result of fentanyl intoxication. Investigators discovered that Baker sold the teen fentanyl instead of heroin which lead to Klaes’ overdose.

Baker faces up to 35 years in prison when he is sentenced on February 13, 2020.

School Bus Woes In Prince George’s County

Prince George’s County Public Schools Struggle Amid Bus Driver Shortage

(Upper Marlboro, MD) — Some Prince George’s County Public School students are waiting more than an hour to catch a bus to school. A report released yesterday revealed the school district is struggling to accurately track how many buses are running behind schedule. Despite many attempts to hire new drivers, the county says they are still in need of nearly a hundred bus drivers. The school district tracks the buses through an app called “Here Comes the Bus” but due to the shortage, last minute changes are often made and not updated on the app. PGCPS Chief Operating Officer Barry Stanton says there’s a possibility the district could reduce the number of bus routes next school year.

A new study by the National Institutes of Health raises questions about black hair treatment and breast cancer.

A new study by the National Institutes of Health has raised a lot of questions about breast cancer, black women and permanent hair dye and hair straightening products.  The results are based on data from 46,709 women enrolled in what is titled the sister study.  Participants all had a sister diagnosed with breast cancer but were cancer-free themselves.  Is this sounding the alarm or just alarmist?

How Procrastinators Can Win At Gift-Giving

Dec. 21 — dubbed Super Saturday because it’s the last Saturday before Christmas — is expected to be the second busiest shopping day, after Black Friday.

Check the calendar. No, this isn’t a dream. It really is December, and Christmas Day is staring you straight in the face.

Where did the holiday season go? Well, no time to reminisce now.

It’s down to the wire, but there are still methods to save money on your last-minute holiday purchases. Here are four simple ways to do it.

1. JINGLE ALL THE WAY TO THE STORE

You’re not the only one still shopping. In fact, Dec. 21 — dubbed Super Saturday because it’s the last Saturday before Christmas — is expected to be the second busiest shopping day, after Black Friday, according to ShopperTrak data from Sensormatic Solutions.

Your first instinct may be to shop online and avoid the crowded mall. But not so fast, says Christopher Newman, associate professor of marketing at the University of Mississippi.

“Shoppers can increase the chance that they get the right product at the best price by shopping in store, rather than online, just before Christmas,” Newman said in an email.

“This ensures that they aren’t limited to choosing from just the products that could ship in time for the holiday.”

Last-minute online shopping may also carry hefty shipping fees. Dec. 14 is the widely accepted cutoff for Christmas ground shipping this year, according to Rob Garf, vice president of Strategy and Insights for Retail & Consumer Goods at Salesforce.

If you order online after that, you’ll likely have to pay to expedite the shipment.

2. OR BUY ONLINE, PICK UP IN STORE

If you’d rather not shop entirely at the store or entirely online, try shopping online and picking up your items at the store. In fact, buying online and retrieving your purchases from the store is a good option for shoppers, Garf says.

“It gives (consumers) the confidence that the product is going to be there and it’s going to give them the convenience that they can walk right in and pick it up,” Garf says.

He adds that some retailers may even extend an extra coupon or discount to shoppers who elect to buy online and pick up in store. Walmart does this.

This option is also good for retailers. Retailers offering buy online, pick up in store (also known as click and collect) will drive 28% more revenue share across their industry during the five days before Christmas compared with those that don’t, according to the 2019 Salesforce Holiday Insights and Predictions.

Retailers also know shoppers may be tempted to purchase additional items when they show up at the store.

3. PICK PRIVATE-LABEL PRESENTS

Purchase method aside, you also want to consider which items are on your gift list. When you have limited time to shop, it’s wise to narrow down your choices. Instead of sticking to your original plan, consider switching to less expensive presents.

Certain items are known to be cheaper just before Christmas, such as toys or previous-model electronics that didn’t sell well throughout the season.

You can also save money by changing the brands you buy. Consumers can get particularly good deals on a retailer’s own private label, for instance. Think the Kindle and Echo products from Amazon, or the Kirkland Signature line at Costco.

“Private-label products are already generally 15%-20% cheaper than their national brand counterparts, but shoppers can save even more around Christmas,” Newman said.

“Retailers can offer better deals on their private label brands than on national brands because their profit margins are higher on private labels to begin with.”

4. POUNCE ON LIMITED-TIME SALES

The fact that you’ve waited to shop until the final days before Christmas doesn’t surprise retailers. Newman says they know many shoppers delay, so they offer last-minute savings opportunities.

Be on the lookout for these types of promotions. They may be announced in advance, such as seven days of deals leading up to Christmas. Or, they may be spur-of-the-moment “flash sales” that happen without notice.

“Shoppers usually have to be vigilant and proactive in order to act upon last-minute flash sales,” Newman said.

Regularly check your email, social media and retailer websites to locate these if they’re announced.

And whatever you do, remember that now’s the time to start springing into action.

“Consumers are going to wake up from their Thanksgiving hangover and realize they have a really short time to swoop up the deals and make sure the presents get on the doorsteps and under the tree before Christmas,” Garf says.

Michelle Obama Promotes Girls Education In Vietnam School

“We are gonna shine a light on you and the work that’s going on here … so that there are people around the world, who understand that when you educate a girl, you’ll give them power and a voice and an opportunity to improve their lives and the lives of their families and the lives of their communities,” Obama said.

LONG AN, Vietnam (AP) — Former U.S. first lady Michelle Obama spoke to students at a school in southern Vietnam while promoting education for girls to help reach their full potential.

Obama, accompanied by actresses Julia Roberts and Lana Condor and “Today Show” co-host Jenna Bush Hager, met on Monday with girls at a high school in Long An province by the Mekong delta, where they listened to the students talk about their schoolwork and challenges.

“We are gonna shine a light on you and the work that’s going on here … so that there are people around the world, who understand that when you educate a girl, you’ll give them power and a voice and an opportunity to improve their lives and the lives of their families and the lives of their communities,” Obama said.

The visitors also joined the students in a life-skills training session where the girls practiced perseverance, critical thinking and negotiating and leadership skills that could ensure the girls are able to advocate for themselves in and out of their classrooms.

Michelle Obama started to work on promoting girls education while her husband was president. She continues the charitable work through the Obama Foundation, with Girls Opportunity Alliance as one of its initiatives.

Last week, she announced that she would donate $500,000 from the sale of her book “Becoming,” to the initiative’s fund.

After her visit to Vietnam, Obama and her husband former President Barack Obama, will speak at a meeting for their foundation in Malaysia that’s set to bring together 200 young leaders across the Asia Pacific region. The couple will also visit Singapore.
