The “Quarantine 15” and the Holiday Eating Season

How can we be healthier and lose weight right now?

This pandemic has been really difficult in so many ways.  Even for those of us who have been able to avoid the coronavirus… The quarantine has impacted our health.  Many of us have picked up weight… The Quarantine 15.  This time of the year is also not helping with the packing on of the pounds. What can we do about it?

DC Will Suspend Indoor Dining Next Week

The ban could last until the beginning of the new year.

(Washington, DC) — Washington, DC is apparently going to suspend indoor dining. Multiple reports say Mayor Muriel Bowser’s new executive order will not allow restaurants to seat customers starting on December 23rd similar to moves in Prince George’s and Montgomery counties. It’s believed take-out and delivery will still be made available. Indoor dining could start again after the New Year.

MD Restaurant Association Sues Over COVID Restrictions

A Maryland judge issued a temporary injunction over Anne Arundel County’s indoor dining ban this week.

(Columbia, MD) — Lawsuits are being filed over coronavirus restrictions at Montgomery and Prince George’s counties and Baltimore City restaurants. Restaurant Association of Maryland President Marshall Weston says the suits were filed today because restaurant employees are suffering due to the pandemic. Weston also says there’s little evidence showing the virus spreads at restaurants, meaning indoor bans don’t make sense. A Maryland judge issued a temporary injunction over Anne Arundel County’s indoor dining ban this week.

Whoopi Goldberg Defends Tom Cruise’s Coronavirus Rant

What would happen if someone at your job spoke to you the way Tom Cruise spoke to his crew?

The leaked audio of Tom Cruise yelling at his crew on the movie set of Mission Impossible 7 raised various opinions.
The View’s Whoopi Goldberg saw nothing wrong with his rant saying, I get it.
Everyone except Sara Haines agreed with Tom’s rant.
Sara said only Tom Cruise could get away with that. How you should never speak to grown adults that way.
Does Sara Haines have a point? What would happen if someone at your job spoke to you the way Tom Cruise spoke to his crew?

RHOP: Pastor Jamal Bryant Opens a Binder of His Own

Did the Pastor clear up anything for you or make it worse?

If you watched Bravo’s Real Housewives of Potomac reunion on Sunday, you saw Monique Samuels bring a binder of receipts on the housewives
She started with Giselle Bryant and ‘read her up and down.’
Monique accused Giselle’s ex-husband, who she is dating again of cheating on her.
Karen jumped in and asked if Jamal was going to attend the reunion and the answer was no.
Monique called him Pastor Holy Wh*re.
Well, the good Pastor hopped on social media with a binder of his own.
He starts off by saying this is not an apology, it is for clarity
He said he participated in the show against his better judgement as he does not feel reality TV does not advance our progress.
He accused Monique’s husband, Chris of being abusive and suffering from head trauma after his years in the NFL.
He reminds everyone that while he is IN Atlanta, he is FROM Baltimore.
Did the Pastor clear up anything for you or make it worse?

Title: Let’s talk about sex… or lack thereof 👀

”Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta” cast members Sierra Gates and BK Brasco recently took to social media to announce their engagement.
In an interview with MadameNoire, the couple talked about their relationship and their decision to be celibate for a year. “We love each other like love. A different type of love. We even took sex out of the equation for a whole year,” she said, adding that God told Brasco that He would bless him if he didn’t touch her for a year.

We talked about those celebrity couples who chose celibacy before marriage and it was honest, transparent and hella hilarious. I really do love that @frankski and I can have these convos on the airwaves. It truly helps me “better understand” the psyche of a man lol. MLB Reclassifies Negro Leagues As Major League

The Negro Leagues consisted of seven leagues that existed from 1920-48.

NEW YORK (AP) — Major League Baseball has reclassified the Negro Leagues as a major league and will count the statistics and records of its 3,400 players as part of its history. The league said it was “correcting a longtime oversight in the game’s history” by elevating the Negro Leagues on the centennial of its founding. The Negro Leagues consisted of seven leagues that existed from 1920-48. Those leagues were excluded in 1969 when the Special Committee on Baseball Records identified six official “major leagues” dating to 1876. The change means Hall of Fame pitcher Satchel Paige could add nearly 150 victories to his total.

96.3 WHUR LAUNCHES NEW ‘QUIET STORM’ SISTER STATION

“What better way to kick-off the road to our Golden Anniversary than to have in place a new station with the Quiet Storm format that helped to put 96.3 WHUR on the map,” said WHUR General Manager Sean Plater.

Heritage station embarks on its Golden Anniversary

Washington, D.C. (Tuesday, December 14, 2020) – Known as the home of the “Original Quiet Storm,” 96.3 WHUR is rolling out a new sister station with the iconic format that can now be heard morning, noon, and night. Formally WHUR-World, 96.3HD2 is now “The Quiet Storm Station.”

The Quiet Storm Station gives listeners the ability to hear their favorite slow jams around-the-clock seven days a week. Programmed by WHUR Music and Assistant Program Director Traci LaTrelle, the music on The Quiet Storm Station holds true to the flavor originated on WHUR back in 1976 by the late Melvin Lindsey.

“You will hear classic hits like ‘Old Friend’ by Phyllis Hyman to new favorites from Kem. It’s the perfect blend of music to help you unwind or to set the right romantic mood,” said LaTrelle. Occasionally, you will even hear Lindsey’s satin voice between songs.

“We are deeply humbled and very excited over the opportunity for Washingtonians and listeners beyond the DMV to hear the voice and music of Melvin once again. The launch of this station ensures that Melvin’s legacy will live on,” said the Lindsey family.

The Quiet Storm Station comes as heritage station 96.3 WHUR prepares to celebrate its 50th Anniversary December 10, 2021. “What better way to kick-off the road to our Golden Anniversary than to have in place a new station with the Quiet Storm format that helped to put 96.3 WHUR on the map,” said WHUR General Manager Sean Plater.

As a bonus, the station will also keep listeners informed and engaged weeknights from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the award-winning news/talk “Daily Drum Show,” hosted by veteran broadcaster Harold Fisher. Often copied by urban stations around the globe, the true sound of the Quiet Storm can also still be heard at its original home 96.3 WHUR with John Monds from 7:30 p.m. to midnight. The Quiet Storm Station is available now at 96.3HD2, TheQuietStormStation.com, and on the Quiet Storm Station mobile app.

Gizelle Gets Called Out On Her Relationship With Jamal

Gizelle’s personal life was what took center stage during the reunion’s first part — thanks to Monique and her “thirst book” of receipts. The drama between Monique and Gizelle ensued after reunion host Andy Cohen asked Gizelle what the status of her relationship was with her ex-husband-turned-boyfriend, Jamal Bryant. Gizelle shared that while the two are still together things amid the COVID-19 pandemic have been “tough” as he remains in Georgia.

The RHOP reunion didn’t disappoint with all the drama. Monique Samuels accused Gizelle Bryant of sticking her nose in others’ business while not having her own house in order. Are there any merits to capital punishment?

Last week, federal executions of two black men were carried out. Would You Return Your Engagement Ring If It Was Too ‘Cheap’?

The ring, which is made of white gold with diamonds and sapphire, cost the man about $3,000. However, he allegedly makes enough that if he followed the 10% rule, which says he should spend one-tenth of his salary on an engagement ring, he should have spent between $10,000 and $15,000.

Are there rules for an engagement and how much should you spend on a good engagement ring? Would you return/exchange your engagement ring if you thought it was cheap? What do you think?

US COVID-19 Deaths Top 300,000

It is more than five times the number of Americans killed in the Vietnam War.

The U.S. death toll from the coronavirus has eclipsed 300,000, just as vaccinations begin across the country. The number of dead tallied by Johns Hopkins University rivals the population of St. Louis or Pittsburgh. It is equivalent to repeating a tragedy on the scale of Hurricane Katrina every day for 5 1/2 months. It is more than five times the number of Americans killed in the Vietnam War. The U.S. crossed the threshold just as the biggest vaccination campaign in American history began Monday with health care workers receiving COVID-19 shots.

Burgundy & Gold Win Fourth Straight

Washington’s football team took down the 49ers in Arizona Sunday.

First place in the NFC East, that is where Washington’s Football Team sits today after a 23-15 win over the 49ers Sunday.  Rookies Chase Young and Kamren Curl scored defensive touchdowns.  Dwight Haskins played the entire second half after Alex Smith left the game with a sore calf muscle in his surgically repaired right leg. The 36-year-old Smith was 8 for 19 for 57 yards and an interception in the first half but walked to the locker room in the final minute of the second quarter.  The Burgundy and Gold have won 4 straight. It’s Washington’s first four-game winning streak since 2016.  Washington, now 6-7 on the season, hosts the Seattle Seahawks next Sunday at FedEx Field.

DC First Responders To Receive Initial Covid Vaccine

Fire and EMS officials will be the first to receive Covid-19 shots in the District.

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser says the first five people to receive the Covid-19 vaccine in the District will be first responders with DC Fire and EMS. DC’s fire chief and the department’s medical director are among the five.  The mayor says she will receive the vaccine after responders are first vaccinated.

Covid-19 Vaccinations Begin In U.S.

A New York City nurse was the first to receive the Phizer vaccine today.

The largest vaccination campaign in U.S. history got underway Monday as health workers in select hospitals rolled up their sleeves for shots to protect them from COVID-19 and start beating back the pandemic — a day of optimism even as the nation’s death toll neared 300,000.

“I feel hopeful today. Relieved,” said critical case nurse Sandra Lindsay after getting a shot in the arm at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York.

Shipments of precious frozen vials of vaccine made by Pfizer Inc. and its German partner BioNTech began arriving at hospitals around the country Monday.

“This is the light at the end of the tunnel. But it’s a long tunnel,” New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said as he watched Lindsay’s vaccination via video.

Several other countries also have OK’d the vaccine, including the U.K., which started vaccinating last week.

For health care workers who, along with nursing home residents, will be first in line for vaccination, hope is tempered by grief and the sheer exhaustion of months spent battling a coronavirus that still is surging in the U.S. and around the world.

“This is mile 24 of a marathon. People are fatigued. But we also recognize that this end is in sight,” said Dr. Chris Dale of Swedish Health Services in Seattle.

Packed in dry ice to stay at ultra-frozen temperatures, the first of nearly 3 million doses being shipped in staggered batches this week made their way by truck and by plane around the country Sunday from Pfizer’s Kalamazoo, Michigan, factory. Once they arrive at distribution centers, each state directs where the doses go next.

Some hospitals across the country spent the weekend tracking their packages, refreshing FedEx and UPS websites for clues.

More of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine will arrive each week. And later this week, the FDA will decide whether to green light the world’s second rigorously studied COVID-19 vaccine, made by Moderna Inc.

Now the hurdle is to rapidly get vaccine into the arms of millions, not just doctors and nurses but other at-risk health workers such as janitors and food handlers — and then deliver a second dose three weeks later.

“We’re also in the middle of a surge, and it’s the holidays, and our health care workers have been working at an extraordinary pace,” said Sue Mashni, chief pharmacy officer at Mount Sinai Health System in New York City.

Plus, the shots can cause temporary fever, fatigue and aches as they rev up people’s immune systems, forcing hospitals to stagger employee vaccinations.

A wary public will be watching closely to see whether health workers embrace vaccination. Just half of Americans say they want to get vaccinated, while about a quarter don’t and the rest are unsure, according to a recent poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Health Research.

The FDA, considered the world’s most strict medical regulator, said the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine appears safe and strongly protective — and laid out the data behind it in a daylong public meeting last week for scientists and consumers alike to see.

“Please people, when you look back in a year and you say to yourself, ‘Did I do the right thing?’ I hope you’ll be able to say, ‘Yes, because I looked at the evidence,’” Dr. Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health, said Sunday on NBC’s Meet the Press. “People are dying right now. How could you possibly say, ‘Let’s wait and see.’”

Still, emergency use means the vaccine was cleared for widespread use before a final study in nearly 44,000 people is complete — and that research is continuing to try to answer additional questions. While effective against COVID-19 illness, it’s not yet clear if vaccination will stop the symptomless spread that accounts for half of all cases.

The shots still must be studied in children, and during pregnancy. But the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists said late Sunday that vaccination should not be withheld from pregnant women who otherwise would qualify.

While the vaccine was determined to be safe, regulators in the U.K. are investigating several severe allergic reactions. The FDA’s instructions tell providers not to give it to those with a known history of severe allergic reactions to any of its ingredients.
