Queen Latifah To Host NAACP Image Awards

The NAACP Image Awards are officially getting the Queen Latifah treatment.

The NAACP Image Awards are officially getting the Queen Latifah treatment. The Emmy, Grammy, Golden Globe, and NAACP Image Award-winning actress, rapper, and singer is set to host this weekend’s upcoming awards show.

The “54th NAACP Image Awards” will air on Feb. 25 from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California. Now BET and the NAACP has announced the “U.N.I.T.Y.” singer as host of the show.

“It’s an honor to host the 54th NAACP Image Awards, especially in the year we are celebrating 50 years of hip-hop,” Latifah said. “This is a night to celebrate Black excellence and the Black contribution to our industry and beyond. Celebrating one another, lifting each other up and you know we’ll have fun doing it!”

Kerry Washington, Taye Diggs, Jonathan Majors, Zendaya, and Janelle Monae will also appear at this year’s ceremony.

NBA All-Star Game Draws Record Low Rating

The 2023 NBA All-Star Game made history on Sunday – but not the kind of history the league was hoping for.

The 2023 NBA All-Star Game made history on Sunday, but not the kind of history the league was hoping for.

Sunday’s contest set a record for the least-watched NBA All-Star Game ever, drawing just 4.59 million viewers between viewers of TBS and TNT.

That’s barely more than half the viewership for the Daytona 500, which aired the same day to an audience of more than 8 million.

Boston Celtics Jayson Tatum took home the Most Valuable Player award. Many would say the low ratings are due to the absence of Warriors Guard Steph Curry who missed the game entirely, and Lakers Forward LeBron James and Bucks Forward Giannis Antetokounmpo exited early.

According to reports ,” Ratings declined 29% and viewership 27% from last year’s All-Star Game (3.1, 6.28M).” It contines to mention,” While All-Star Game viewership has been trending down, this year’s declines are the steepest for the game since 2000 — the first All-Star Game after a one-year hiatus due to the 1998-99 NBA lockout.”

Judge Mathis Returns to Television with Allen Media Group

A few days after Warner Brothers announced the show ‘Judge Mathis’ would be canceled after 20 years on air, the daytime judge from Detroit has not hung up his robe just yet.

By Shanell Holback @nellywrites_

A few days after Warner Brothers announced the show ‘Judge Mathis’ would be canceled after
20 years on air, the daytime judge from Detroit has not hung up his robe just yet.

On Feb. 21, Judge Greg Mathis announced that he has teamed up with Allen Media Group and is
actively pitching a new show “Mathis Court with Judge Mathis” to broadcast and cable networks
for a fall 2023 launch.

Allen Media Group is a Black media company founded by Byron Allen and currently runs eight
court series on its network. On Instagram, Mathis announced that he was still in the judge show
business and looking into working with a Black studio following the cancelation of ‘Judge
Mathis.’

“Hey folks, I’m sure by now you know that Warner Brothers is getting out of the judge show
business, canceling me and People’s Court, but the good news is, the other studios aren’t getting
out of the judge show business. And as you can see with this robe still on, something might be
happening real soon. And in fact, if it does happen, it’s going to be and it will (be) with a Black
studio this time.”

Rihanna’s song “Lift Me Up” won the award for outstanding music video/visual album from the film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which also won for outstanding soundtrack/compilation album.

Other notable winners include Silk Sonic, Erica Cambell, and Tems.
The winners for the rest of the non-televised categories will continue to be announced virtually through Thursday at 8 pm ET, and at an awards dinner program on Friday night.

“Throughout the past year, we’ve witnessed Black artists showcasing our history and uplifting values of progressive change, while redefining genres and bringing our stories to the forefront of entertainment in so many innovative ways,” President and CEO of the NAACP, Derrick Johnson, says. “Black voices are necessary to continually inspire audiences around the world.

We’re proud to once again provide a platform that both elevates and celebrates these voices through the 54th NAACP Image Awards.”

Tune in to BET on Saturday, Feb. 25th as the 54th NAACP Image Awards broadcasts live at

Howard University’s Swim and Dive Team Makes History on the Cover of Sports Illustrated

Howard University’s Swim and Dive Team has officially become the first all-Black swim team to
grace the cover of Sports Illustrated, and remains the only swim team at a historically Black
an institution since 2016.

By Brianna Theophile @itsbriannat

Howard University’s Swim and Dive Team has officially become the first all-Black swim team to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated and remains the only swim team at a historically Black institution since 2016.
There is a lack of representation for Black college athletes, as they account for only 1.5% of the country’s competitive swimmers, according to Sports Illustrated. Roughly one-third of the country’s Black college swimmers reside at Howard alone.
The team’s coach, Nic Askew, reportedly recruited swimmers from all over the world to create the compelling team.
He tells Sports Illustrated, “I stand before you as a Black man in America, in a sport that doesn’t look like me. This drives home the reason I am at Howard, and I have been called to this sport… to lead the only HBCU swimming and diving program because that shouldn’t be the
case.
This world and this nation are full of opportunities, and opportunities should be for everyone”. This month, the team now has the chance after 30 years, to bring home the Northeast Conference swimming championship title.

The Madea creator told Davis, he’d be the one to announce when the time comes. She let him know,  “Thank you, but I’m sure I’m going to outlive you.” He continued to say that Davis asked when she does pass away, can he bury her in his pool.

Don Lemon Drops Out of Moderating NYC Event Amid Backlash

CNN’s Don Lemon has dropped out of an event to honor Black History Month following misogynistic comments about Nikki Haley.

CNN’s Don Lemon has dropped out of an event to honor Black History Month following misogynistic comments about Nikki Haley.

Lemon was set to moderate an event in New York City centering around race and real estate. He and the event organizers agreed that his recent news converge would put a dim light on the event and its purpose.

Don was replaced with real estate broker John Gomes, and he was absent from Monday’s “CNN This Morning.”

Don got in trouble when he said that a woman’s “prime” was based on her age when talking about Nikki. “I’m just saying Nikki Haley should be careful about saying that politicians are not in their prime and they need to be in their prime when they serve. Because she wouldn’t be in her prime according to, you know, Google,” Lemon shared during the show.

Viewers expressed their anger online, with co-host Poppy Harlow voicing her displeasure with the comment.

Since then, he’s apologized, he tweeted,” The reference I made to a woman’s “prime” this morning was inartful and irrelevant, as colleagues and loved ones have pointed out, and I regret it. A woman’s age doesn’t define her either personally or professionally. I have countless women in my life who prove that every day.”

Chris Brown Asks Where’s Cancel Culture For White Artists As People Bring Up His Past Abuse Against Rihanna

Chris Brown responded to people who still haven’t forgotten his assault on Rihanna almost 15 years ago.

Chris Brown responded to people who still haven’t forgotten his assault on Rihanna almost 15 years ago.  The singer frustrated, said he wants people who “still hate” him to kiss his “f–king a-s” for what he realizes was a “mistake” of assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009. He pleaded guilty after the incident.

He continues, “Im [sic] tired of yall [sic] running wit [sic] this narrative. You weird ass n—as are the same ones that tune in every week to see Blueface and Chrisean beat the f–k out of each other in front of the world,” Brown began a mostly all-caps Instagram Stories Friday.

It all started when former Cheetah Girl Kiely Williams tweeted, “Let him come out with his own record–so genius, so captivating that it makes us all forget HE BEATS WOMEN. He can’t so he won. So what does he do?” This tweet came after the announcement of singer Chlöe Bailey releasing her album with a song featuring Chris Brown. Williams is also a fan of watching the nonsense of one-hit rapper Blueface and on-and-off again girlfriend Chrisean.

The singer then wondered where “cancel culture” was when it came to “white artists” who “date underage women” or “beat the f–k out of their wives.” He followed up with some pretty well-known white actors and artists that have been arrested for assault on their partners but still not treated as Brown. Nicholas Cage, Sean Penn, Mel Gibson, Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash, and American Horror Story actress Emma Roberts who was arrested for beating her co-star boyfriend Evan Peters in Canada.

Rihanna And ASAP Rocky Grace The Cover Of British Vogue

Rihanna and ASAP Rocky show off their beautiful family on the cover of British Vogue (photos, by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin).

The Super Bowl LVII halftime performer share with British Vogue her experience with being a new mommy, “Oh, my God, it’s legendary.” She continued, “It’s everything. You really don’t remember life before, that’s the craziest thing ever…You literally try to remember it—and there are photos of my life before—but the feeling, the desires, the things that you enjoy, everything, you just don’t identify with it because you don’t even allow yourself mentally to get that far, “Because it doesn’t matter.”

Riri, mentions how it was dressing while pregnant, “Dressing for pregnancy was such a piece of cake,” she said. It’s what comes after that’s hard, she maintained: “But dressing in postpartum, what the fuck do you do? The week that I came home from the hospital—that was nothing but sweats and hoodies. But the weeks after that, you don’t know what to put on. Everything is too small or too big.”

She continued, “You kind of just gotta wait it out otherwise you end up buying so many clothes you’re not going to use. Well, unless you get pregnant again.”

Bringing home that little bundle of joy can be a crazy feeling for everyone, she shares, “You’re just going through the motions,” she continues, “and even then you’re so paranoid. Because you’re like: they trusted us to come home with this baby? This new life? With us?” She starts laughing. “No doctors, no nurses, we’re just… going home?”

This interview was done before she knew she was pregnant and discussed the idea of a new album, “I want it to be this year,” she says. “Like, honestly, it’d be ridiculous if it’s not this year. But I just want to have fun. I just want to make music and make videos.”

As for her thoughts on more kids with her partner ASAP Rocky, “Listen, I’m down for whatever. My wish would be I would like to have more kids but whatever God wants for me, I’m here.”

A week after the body of a missing Georgia teen was found, a police officer has been arrested in connection with her murder.

A week after the body of a missing Georgia teen was found, a police officer has been arrested in connection with her murder. Miles Bryant, an officer with the Doraville Police Department, was taken into custody Monday and charged with concealing the death of another and false report of a crime, authorities say.

Although investigators haven’t revealed the circumstances surrounding Susana Morales’ death, Bryant’s arrest warrant says he “lives in close proximity to the victim and dumped her naked body in the woods.” Morales, 16, was last seen on July 26th about a half-mile from her home, police have said.

The search for the teen continued until last week when her body was discovered near the Barrow County line, more than 20 miles from the area in which she was last seen. It’s unclear if Morales and Bryant knew each other prior to her death. “Now we know, we know something,” says Morales’ sister, Jasmine. “We are just hoping everything will come to light soon.”

And I felt so cool. I just thought it was magical.”

Missy Elliott joined LL Cool J, Queen Latifah, Ice-T, Busta Rhymes, and many more to represent Hip-Hop in a once in a lifetime performance at the 2023 Grammys.  Elliott took great pride in participating in Hip-Hop’s 50th-anniversary tribute at the 2023 Grammy Awards.

The acclaimed artist reflected on the star-studded performance in an interview with Billboard.   “It was such nostalgia because I remember sitting in my living room and watching Public Enemy and Eric B. and Rakim and De La Soul and [Queen] Latifah and Salt-N-Pepa,” she said.

“And once again, just like that [Billboard] list, I am a part of this 50-year Hip-Hop tribute. And I tell you — this is no lie — no matter how many awards or accolades I have collected; I still pinch myself when I’m in those spaces because those people are so legendary to me.”  The Grammys performance was curated by Questlove, which highlighted multiple eras of Hip-Hop.

Civil Rights Activist Roslyn Pope Dies At 84

The college professor and musician who wrote “An Appeal for Human Rights,” laying out the reasons for the Atlanta Student Movement against systemic racism in 1960.

ATLANTA (AP) — Roslyn Pope, a college professor and musician who wrote “An Appeal for Human Rights,” laying out the reasons for the Atlanta Student Movement against systemic racism in 1960, has died. She was 84.

Pope died Jan. 18 in Arlington, Texas, where she moved from Atlanta to be with her daughters after her health began to fail in 2021, according to her family’s obituary.

The document Pope wrote as a 21-year-old senior at Spelman College launched a nonviolent campaign of boycotts and sit-ins by Black college students protesting discrimination not just in voting but in education, jobs, housing, hospitals, movies, concerts, restaurants and law enforcement.

“We do not intend to wait placidly for those rights, which are already legally and morally ours, to be meted out to us one at a time,” the Appeal declared. “We plan to use every legal and non-violent means at our disposal to secure full citizenship rights as members of this great Democracy of ours.”

Atlanta’s white-owned newspapers wouldn’t publish it, and Georgia’s segregationist leaders tried to dismiss it, saying it couldn’t possibly be the work of college students. But The New York Times ran it on a full page, as did other publications across the U.S. It was read into the Congressional Record as a testament to how segregation was stifling the ability of people to coexist with equality and dignity.

President Biden Fires Architect Of The Capitol

Blanton, as the head of the agency responsible for Capitol building operations and preservation, wasn’t physically present during the Capitol riot on January 6th, 2021.

(Washington, DC) — President Biden is firing the Architect of the Capitol after allegations that he misused government property. An inspector general report accused J. Brett Blanton of wasting taxpayer money by taking a government vehicle on out-of-town personal trips and letting his family drive it. Bipartisan calls for his firing from Congress also erupted. That came after members learned in a hearing that Blanton, as the head of the agency responsible for Capitol building operations and preservation, wasn’t physically present during the Capitol riot on January 6th, 2021.

Rihanna fans everywhere tuned in live to watch the business mogul perform for the first time since 2016 at Super Bowl LVII halftime show.

Many anticipated nothing other than a jaw-dropping show and many will agree, that’s what was given.

The stage lifted the Savage X Fenty founder high above the crowd in her hot pink ensemble. She was joined by dancers dressed in all white while performing her number-one hits!

Although she couldn’t perform every hit song in the allotted time during her performance she gives what appears to be a sweet belly rub. Leaving fans in a tizzy, assuming that the Barbadian singer is now pregnant with her second child.

Since the performance, the Fenty beauty has confirmed she is pregnant with her second child with rapper ASAP Rocky.  The two just welcomed their first son in May 2022. Rihanna trends at #1 worldwide with over 2.1 MILLION tweets following her SuperBow Halftime Show performance and pregnancy announcement.

In 2020, he again sparked concern when he was briefly hospitalized. He appeared to be in good spirits, however and was able to have an Instagram Live conversation with his De La Soul brethren, Posdnuos and Maseo.

The group was looking forward to their debut 3 Feet High and RisingDe La Soul Is DeadBuhloone Mindstate, Stakes Is High, Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump and AOI: Bionix finally available on all digital service providers on March 3. It may not seem like a celebration without all three members present for the moment, but it is certainly well deserved.

What time will the halftime show begin?

Be on the lookout around 8 pm ET

What songs will Rihanna perform?

No word on the set list, due to the element of surprise. Knowing the songs could give away any guest appearances.

According to KOIN.COM, “Super Bowl halftime shows are usually around 15 minutes long.” The year performed by Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Snoop Dogg and the year before with The Weeknd both included nine songs in each setlist.

Who are the surprise guests?

The NFL and show producers haven’t revealed any guests or cameos. Knowing the ties to Rihanna there are a plethora of artist that could make their way to the show, like Calvin Harris, Drake, maybe even her love A$AP Rocky. Some are guessing Shakira, Eminem, or Jay-Z

SZA Receives the Honor of Being Named Billboard’s ‘Woman of the Year’

After achieving many accolades, records, and successes following her critically acclaimed sophomore album SOS, contemporary R&B singer SZA will be awarded the honor of “Woman of the Year” at the Billboard Women in Music Awards held in Los Angeles on March 1st.

After achieving many accolades, records, and successes following her critically acclaimed sophomore album SOS, contemporary R&B singer SZA will be awarded the honor of “Woman of the Year” at the Billboard Women in Music Awards held in Los Angeles on March 1st.

In December of last year, SZA dropped her long-awaited album SOS, which immediately debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard`200, and continued topping the charts for the following seven consecutive weeks.

The album has also recently gone certified platinum by the RIAA, with instant mega-hits such as “Good Days”, “I Hate U”, “Kill Bill” and more. The 33-year-old artist plans on embarking on her first arena tour as well, the first show starting out in Ohio on Feb. 21st.

Additionally, her debut album Ctrl has also remained on the Billboard 200 since its release in 2017, holding the record at 295 weeks (and still counting) for the longest run for any Black female artist’s debut album.

Billboard’s editorial director, Hannah Karp, goes on to say in a press statement: “The release of her latest album, SOS, has solidified her as a distinct force in contemporary R&B, and catapulted her into superstardom. We can’t wait to honor her as Woman of the Year.”

Tickets for the Billboard Women in Music Awards at the YouTube Theater are available to purchase through Ticketmaster, and the show will be available to watch through livestream as well.

Nearly 5 million Fabuloso Bottles Are Recalled Due To Dangerous Bacteria Contamination Risk

Consumers who have purchased bottles of Fabuloso between the period of Dec. 14th, 2022, and Jan. 23rd, 2023 are being urged by Colgate-Palmolive, Fabuloso’s parent company, to stop using and immediately discard of any bottle listed in the recall announcement due to dangerous bacteria contamination risk.

They are instructed to dispose of the bottle in its container, rather than dispel its contents before disposal.

About 4.9 million bottles in the U.S. and 56,000 bottles in Canada have been recalled, including many different types of the multipurpose cleaner that were sold online and at major retailers during that time. Fabuloso states that nearly 3.9 million of these bottles were never released for sale.

According to Colgate-Palmolive, this bacteria contamination is a direct result of preservatives not added at the intended levels during the specified cleaners’ manufacturing and conversely resulted in the growth of the bacteria of the Pseudomonas species, which is commonly found in soil and water.

As stated directly by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, “People with weakened immune systems, external medical devices, or underlying lung conditions who are exposed to the bacteria face a risk of serious infection that may require medical treatment… People with healthy immune systems are usually not affected by the bacteria.” This bacteria may enter the body by being inhaled, through a break in the skin or through the eyes.

Colgate-Palmolive states that any customer that purchased the recalled products are eligible for full refunds or free replacements by contacting them.

Currently, no injuries or incidents have been reported as a result of this bacteria as of the recall.
